has anyone had the misfortune to make a claim on their household/buildings/contents insurance and do they pay out fairly or at all??

Our neighbours have had two claims both settled without quibble by Umbrella...



1. A lorry ran into their gates... paid in full.



2. Friend had a chip pan fire... paid 85% no quibble (as a holiday home this is a normal percentage) Their friend will make up the shortfall... cost of getting it all fixed about £650



This insurance was arranged via Iktisat Bank, Girne

Got to agree with groucho we are insured with Umbrella as were introduced by a friend who had a small claim and was paid out no problems 70% of the amount of damage

but only one thing they insisted on receipts or quotes from official company's

Yeah we had to get quotes/receipts but that's normal they do have to justify paying out after all.... what kind of insurance company doesn't do that? Oh yeah the one going bust.

We didn't have to queue up.. the Iktisat Bank have a very nice English Speaking Dept. upstairs where you can sit down in comfort whilst arranging insurance.. oh and you get a good discount if you are BRS members (more than covers cost of joining BRS).

Following great praise on this site I used Steve Dickinson. I paid the money many months ago.

Spent time by phone and e-mail asking for written details and a policy.

They were supposed to come to the house in July but made no effort to arrange a meeting despte phone call that we were here 3 weeks.

Wonder if I am insured or not?

Thanks for your enquiry but we do not operate outside of the area Tatlisu/Bacheli/Esentepe/Alagadi, hope you find someone suitable, I have heard of a firm called ISS who I think operate in your area, but further than that I can't comment.

I can confirm that we are official main agents for Umbrella insurance in the above area, and earthquake and act of terror or war are covered in the policy

ISS are very good. We used the guy who runs this company to do our snagging and he liased with the lady who supplied our furniture. If for any reason we ever decided to change management companies we would probably use him. Very reliable and honest and always happy to help.

redsnapper , we use dagli sigorta , and they have insured us and earthquake cover is included they also reduce the premium annually

Further to message 9 the matter has now been resolved . I am more than happy with the response from Steve. This certainly appears to be a one off caused by an employee and I am sure that I have the cover and back up which I need, in place in TRNC.

I'm glad that Steve has resolved your problem. I have always used Steve for all my insurance cover and have nothing but praise for him. I know Steve personally and I also know that this matter has concerned him greatly.
