My friend has bought a villa which has a 10M x 5M overflow pool. The pool is nearly full, just below the overflow coping stones but it is very very green!!! Does anyone have an idea of a cost for draining the pool, cleaning the tiles with algaecide etc and re-filling it.

Thanks in advance

Maybe you can get away with flocking it and not emptying it. If you empty it you will need to acid clean it really. I would go and buy a bottle of flock and give it a try and in a couple of days it may clear. Worth spending a little before you spend a fortune with cleaning and water replacement.

If you are located in the west side I could have a quick look for you, no cost, no problem.

if the contents are green, it's organic, I suggest before flocking it you kill the organics with a good dose of a strong algecide, then flock it to take all the solids to the bottom.

It has to be shocked with a very heavy dose of chlorine, left for a couple of days. If the green algae doesn't sink then put in flocculent. When is has all sunk, vacuum to waste, top the pool up and wait until the chlorine level is down to a normal level and it will be usable

He may need to brush the side to loosen the algae which can be quite stubborn when attached to tiles but easily treated when suspended in solution.

Tell him not waste all that water that's for sure. It's a very expensive solution to empty the pool and the 'new water' might just turn green in a jiffy.

With the application of a little 'elbow-grease' and the chemicals as above it will soon be back in order.
