We would like to give "The House" opposite the Colony in Girne, a big "Thumbs Up" for a lovely lunch. So well presented and not over expensive (don't do expensive) very different from the normal run of the mill food., take a look around the house, takes you back in time. Excellent Service. Hope they do well. Anyone know who it belongs to or the history behind it?

I believe it dates back from colonial times ! It's owned by the Colony Hotel across the road they used an English Interior designer who I think made a cracking job and brought the building back to life very sypathetically.

King its a sign of the times here sadly xx. If that is so then they must be catering for a brit audience x That surprises me as it is beautiful, I would have thought the TCs would love it x

Yes, We have enjoyed one or two lunches at the House and both times enjoyed it very much. A definite chill out zone.

Yep, the House and Garden are part of the Arkin group and \Mr Arkin made hismoney from a chain of betting shops (although he doesn't gable himself). If you look further up the road from the Colony you will ses that he has a travel agent business there too. He is a London Cypriot who has done well and who hs a great lovefor his country and his loving restoration of that wonderful old property bears witness to hi caring about the history and environment of the country. Didn't know they did Karaokke - best avoided by me, but a great place for lunch with friends. Only one grumble - no parking, and there isn't proper parking at theColony either. But at the rear of Th House is a car park and a special green door for entry on special nights throughto the restaurant and the garden which is now a venue for wedding celebrations.

The House is nice for both lunch & dinner- it offers a good selection of dishes and having tried the majority of the menu I find them all to be well done, presented and also priced.. If you have issues with parking give the car to The Colony, explain you are eating at The House and they will valet if for you! So then the lack of spaces is their issue Lovely interior design too

The Karaoke on Fridays is so off-putting. We drove down there a couple of Fridays ago intending to have a meal but on seeing the notice we went elsewhere. I know we can and will go another evening but why oh why does somewhere like The House need to resort to Karaoke? I don't believe it is a sign of the times for "nice" places, I think they think we all love it AND I HATE IT!!! Tango1

Why do restaurants think that the only entertainment people want is Karaoke, I detest it and avoid anywhere that has it on, we were planning a visit to The House but will have to choose the night carefully now.

Why do restaurants think that people want entertainment at all? many a good meal in Turkey has been ruined when they switch on the 'entertainment'! we avoid nights when there is a special event, can't focus on the food!

Have had lunch there and really enjoyed it. I think Burhan, as well as the interior designer, have done a superb job on the furnishings. Only gripe is that it is very disability unfriendly. My friend with MS has a tricky time getting up the stairs and doesn't drink much as the loos are downstairs!

Hi Panchocat, I have to agree with you, the stairs down to the loos are very dark also. I love the furnishings and the lay out.

Agreed, my husband has a quiet curse and swear when we go to The House (and other places) as his mobility gets worse by the day, and so our choice of venue is getting less and less. A personal matter I know, and I am not complaining, but I guess this place is not so 'handicapped' aware as the law makes Britain be. As to Karaoke, unless they let me sing along with Tatiana's Letter song from Eugene \Onegin (an aria 14 minutes long), then I am not interested, and I guess the owners would not be interested in my emptying the restaurant either. Seriously, I just LERV to wine, dine and talk. Last time I was at The House in a small room with a gathering of 6 of us, had to ask them to turn off the loudspeakers. But they did - but why have them on in the first place? But, The House is a great place to eat and things change frequently, so maybe they might consider installing a lift for those lacking in mobility? Perhaps we should ask Ebril Arkin to consider it????????

Not alot of karoake fans on the forum then? I find there are two types of singer the good singers who really do sound half reasonable and can be enjoyed as entertainment and on the other side of the coin the people who actually know they cant sing but feel it has to be demonstated by torturing a song or two! Unfortunately they blend in with the good singers and pop up every other song!! But then again folks you have 6 out of 7 days so play fair.
