Eric Clapton called him the most important guitarist who ever lived and recorded 'Me & Mr Johnson' CD as tribute to him.

Sweet Home Chicago is probaly his most covered song but Crossroads and Walking Blues have been recorded by more recent artists, too, many times ...have I missed any?

Eric Clapton's version of Crossroads on Cream's Wheels of Fire album is still one of THE great rock/blues recordings ever made.

The DVD part of me and Mr & Mr Johnson has some great stuff too...I like the bit where EC admits he doesn't understand how to play some of Mr J's stuff...maybe he did have a contract with the Devil signed at the crossroads!

Dust My Broom, I forgot ....

re. MSG 7, there is a theory that what we hear is actually speeded-up somewhat (hence more difficult to play) ...you can hear (via Dr Google) how some folks think it sounded in real time. No way of proving it one-way-or-the-other, of course.

The 'Devil at the Crossroads' story was actually related to, an earlier musician, Tommy Johnson (the character in the 'Oh, Brother Where Art Thou' film.

Dust my Broom...I always though that was Elmore James...but then I would as a follower of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, wouldn't I?

This thread has nothing to do with the TRNC but if no one else is bothered then what the heck.

Robert Johnson:

II believe I'll Dust My Broom

Phonograph Blues

Ramblin On My Mind

Kind Hearted Woman Blues

Terraplane Blues

I'm A Steady Rollin Man

Walking Blues

Last Fair Deal Gone Down

Dead Shrimp Blues

Sweet Home Chicago

32-20 Blues

Come On In My Kitchen

If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day

Me And The Devil Blues

Preaching Blues

Continued:

Cont:

Stones In My Passway

Cross Road Blues

Travelling Riverside Blues

When You Got A Good Friend

Milkcow's Calf Blues

Hellhound On My Trail

From Four 'Til Late

Honeymoon Blues

Stop Breakin' Down Blues

Malted Milk

Little Queen Of Spades

They're Red Hot

Drunken Hearted Man

Love In Vain

The above is the definitive list of everything written and recorded by Robert Johnson.

The book that should satisfy all Blues fans is 'The Story Of The Blues' by Paul Oliver.

If it is still available then the ISBN No. is 0 14 00.3509 5 (I have Googled it and it appears as though it is)

I have recordings of all of the above songs and have a copy of the book.

But until you read the book you will realise that RJ was just a small piece in the jigsaw that was responsible for shaping Blues and Rock music as we know it today.

Enjoy
