I remember in the UK if your car was on the drive and you were not going to use it for some months, then you didnt have to renew car tax. Is it the same here?

As far as I know even if you don't use it for a full year you will have to pay the back tax on it. (if that makes sense)

Provided your vehicles documentation is up to date, you can get permission to take the vehicle off the road for a period of up to three years. You need to write a letter explaining that the vehicle is off the road, under going repairs, or you are leaving the country and usually permission is granted.

Will they want proof of the repair work being undertaken?

They didn't when I did it last time but it was a few years ago but you can say you have to go out of the country. You have to have road tax MOT insurance at the time of your application. You can re apply to extend the permision. Obviously the vehicle has to be taken off the road. No penalties are applied to road tax, mot whilst the vehicle is off the road unless you go over the period of orturma izin (permission to take the vehicle off the road). The scheme is still available but it is possible that changes have been made. I went to the vehicle licencing office in Nicosia, which is behing what was the old Cyprus Turkish airlines building. If you do find out that they have made changes, could you let me know please. Good luck
