We're getting married at the end of the month and are thinking about cakes. But having seen and tried the local Cypriot cakes i'm not impressed and am wondering if there is anyone out there in the expat population who by chance is prepared to make a propper English wedding cake.

I do know a couple of people that make wedding cakes, as in fruit cakes, but they are not cheap! Email me at claire@myweddingcyprus.com with what you are looking for and I can get some quotes for you.

My daughter got married in Crete, a heavy fruit cake would not have been ideal so she decieded on a lovely fruit and merangue creation, it was simply delicious and of course didnt have to worry about the left over cake that had cost a fortune to make and wasnt eaten......at the end of the day who actually remembers the cake??? I would respecfully suggest to go with the local customs and save a fortune..........

Names of 2 excellent bakers are Margaret Cracknell who has a stall at Chateau Lambousa on a Saturday and Barbara Moss of Esentepe. Not sure if either do this kind of thing as the materials are so expensive to get, mainly from South, that most customers are put off. I'm afraid that I haven't got contact numbers for them but maybe someone will see this and put contact details on if they can help.

Hope you find the ideal cake, Robin. As long as it is money no object, yes they have been madebefore for others. Can't remember how much, but if you draw a blank come back to me, but I think the contacts above should lead you down a suitably fruity path! So where is my wedding invitation then????
