For some 4 weeks I have driven miles and made numerous telephone calls to collect ready made 4 mm Heat Resistent (oven type) glass for a hob splashback but to date it has not been provided. I would be very grateful to hear from anyone who might know where I can make a definite purchase of this. Had I not put a decorative mosaic behind the hob I could have made do with stainless steel !

Try Altinkar the Log Burner Shop, He should have a contact, (it is used in the doors of most log burners.)

Lee. Thanks for the prompt response. Tried Altinkar and they can certainly provide very high quality heat risistent glass but only cut to sizes and shapes to fit the fire models in stock. It is sourced from Germany at over 400 Euros a square metre ! I am now trying to get a large hob cover plate to cut to size but as yet none big enough. Hope I do not have to revert to "my cunning plan" for the final contingency. Get a Humbee, use the windscreen, and dump the vehicle as I could not afford to run it ! Incidentally, now that Guido is closed is there a place convenient to Alsancak where I can make small cash contributions from time to time in support of your sterling efforts for Ismail ?

You are most welcome. I will ask my Cyp freind over the weekend, he has many contacts here. Thank You also for your kind comments and offer, feel free to call me any time and we can arrange, 0533 843 6539. Do you need it for the protection of splashes etc, staining the grouting ? and are the mosaics fixed yet ? If not, if you can use proper epoxy grout, (2 part mix) it is totally impervious, we used on work tops, and it was superb, (but a pig to work with)

Not sure if this will be of any use to you, but you can get glass placemats/chopping boards from Mr. Pound, and no doubt elsewhere, which may fit the bill.

Sam. Thanks for the tip which I will check on. The size I need is 64cm x 59 cm so perhaps I may have to make do with a smaller area covered. Lee. Thanks for your continued interest and the brief update regarding Ismail on another post. I will try and get a quick word with you if, as I believe, you will be at the Mountain View next Saturday.
