No specific rules that I'm aware of. If the service and food is good I'd give 10 - 15%.

There are no hard and fast rules, and its not really expected. In our restaurant most people left on average 10 per cent. We found that the tourists tended to tip more than locals.

We don't leave a percentage as that rewards places that charge more disproportionately better off even though the service can be iffy.

In fact we probably use an inverse tipping rule. i.e. for a little family run restaurant, with low prices and therefore proportionately lower profits for eat cover, we tend give more generously. I think it's whatever you feel comfortable giving based on how well you think the whole experience went. But certainly do not tip at all if the service is crap. Rewarding bad service makes you a mug. Something all too many eateries rely on.

Most restaurants are overpriced for the quality and service here anyway, costs etc are built into prices, tip nothing.

I agree with message 8. Smaller places (as long as food is good) tend to get a better tip than larger restaraunts from me.

on the "rule tipping" slightly off subject ....does anybody get offended when you go into a restraunt and they just add 15 to 20% gratuities?

mainly american experiences where they just expect you to pay 20% more and say nothing....are you paying for good service or just making up the wage of the staff ?

in a bar in usa a bottle of bud was $6 ,wow ....the barman opened the fridge door ,took off the top and expected $1 dollar tip everytime .

Canada, it basicially means that they are mean tight people with money, they wont share. Hence they peel their orange in their pocket to avoid sharing it x

Basically, if you go to a garage, have a repair job done, pay and leave a tip. The next person to have a repair job done, the price goes up, he leaves a tip...the price goes up.

What is this all about..tipping?????

I had two florist shops, never ever recieved a tip, hairdressers do, but florists..no, but we're the ones who worked all night through, as the flowers have to be fresh, and last all day. Why do hairdressers have a tip??

YOu have your hair cut, you pay the price stated?? why a tip??

I have always hated going to the ehairdressers soley because I am embarresed as to how much tip to give.

msg17....Why not give the hairdresser a small bunch of flowers ...With the "MARK UP" on flowers being what it is, it would cost you next to nothing ...
