Hi, has anyone crossed the border at Pyla (Pile) from Larnaca Airport recently, as I have some friends coming over soon and they are looking to get a Taxi to Pyla (Pile) crossing and walk over. Is it possible and how much does the Taxi from the airport cost?.

Thanks

They will find it cheaper to get one from the north to meet them and bring them over the crossing. done it loads of times by own car, never a problem.

I'm losing the will to live;

The border crossing is at Beyarmudu.

Just came back from Larnaca and picked up by excellent taxi driver through Pergama crossing

near Pile, and then on to new road which was very quiet. Thought to myself "I could do this"

Return journey fine too.

I think we have a bit of a pedantic, but necessary conversation going here. The crossing is not at Pyla a village on the Greek side nearest the border....when I advised a friend to have their taxi driver "drop them at the Pyla" and meet me there, he went first to the Famagusta, then the Pergamos crossing. It cost E40. Beyarmuda (Pergamos) are the two names for the crossing you want nearest to Larnaca airport. The no-mans land is about 50m wide there and you can easily walk through from either side. If you are using a Greek side taxi, park your car on the Turkish side, sign out and walk across to meet them, then walk them back to your car.

Alternatively have them picked up by a Turkish side taxi from Esentepe and meet them at the village, it will probably cost you the same as a Greek side taxi to the border, based on my experience.

Whatever, don't ask a Greek side tax to take you to the Pyla crossing lol

Thanks, dont suppose you have any idea how much it costs in a Taxi from the airport as I to have all the relevant info for them and also how long is the drive back to Esenteppe.

If he does it in an hour is it too fast? I think so. One hour 15 minutes is a safer speed.

Between 40 and 45 pounds appears to be the going rate for a pick-up at Larnaca and run to Esentepe.

I'm not necessarily suggesting this company, but thought this would give you an idea of costs:-

Msg 7: "The crossing is not at Pyla a village on the Greek side nearest the border"

Sorry to add to any pedantry but Pyla is in the Buffer Zone and so technically on neither side.

I think Pyla is the only place in Cyprus where you can buy a pint of keo and a pint of efes in the same pub!!

Either Beyarmuda (Pergamos) or 'Black Knight'/Ayios Nikolias, both are in the ESBA area and are controlled by SBA Customs & Excise and TRNC Immigration officials. It really depends upon where you live here in the TRNC.

I often see queries asking about taxis from Larnaca to locations within the TRNC or from crossings to Ayia Napa etc. We had occasion to use one on Mon eve and thoroughly recommend this guy. His details are:

Ismail - Pergamos & Pyla Border - 0090 542 851 7140/0090 533 851 7140, CYTA 0357 999 16412

info@larnaca-northcyprustaxi.com, http://www.larnaca-northcyprustaxi.com

7 seater, fully a/c.

My wife accidently left her purse in his vehicle and he 'phoned the next day to ask if we had lost something. Once she had established what was lost, he confirmed he had it and made arrangements for her to collect it. Everything was there, including over 350 TL. A gem!!

Just to really pedantic; re Msg 7

Pyla/Pile is NOT on the Greek side it is firmly inside the UN Buffer Zone. Greek and Turkish Cypriot Police are not allowed to enter the village and it is under the control of UNCIVPOL.

Unless it has changed recently, the Police Station was run by the Irish Garda Siochana.

But those who say the crossing is not in Pile are correct.
