This came up in another thread and I thought it worthy of discussion - if the figures are valid

http://www.cyprus-forum.com/cyprus28804.html ( 2010)

>>Total TRNC imports last year were 1 billion 241 million dollars, and exports 71 million 73 thousand dollars, according to the figures released by the Trade Department.

It announced a trade deficit of 1 billion 170 million dollars.

According to the figures, a 26% drop was recorded in imports and a fall of 15% was observed in exports compared to previous year.

More than 67% of the imports was made from Turkey, which was followed by third countries with 32.3%. ..<<

sorry don't know the source the author got this from - that's a staggering deficit..17.5 times more in than out ...

Mark

Yet again another posting without facts.

If you want a serious debate then at least do some research first and post your sources. You are falling into the same trap as John (sorry I meant Zoots).

it is surely due to the "blockade" which you support?

oh, perhaps you never meant that in so many words

...and sanctions kinda sprang up of their own accord

but we would probably agree they'll end when turkey

vacates cyprus or their complete futility is recognised

the general point I s'ppose is that the finances of the

trnc are phoney, bankrupt, unviable, and dependent:

just like eu greece, ireland, portugal, italy and spain

Dear AJ

>>Yet again another posting without facts. <<

1/ I clearly state I don't know if the figures are valid.. but it is claimed to be from a 'TRNC govt body'.. I didn't see it's authenticity being questioned by TCs..

Do you doubt the authenticity ?

2/ to be 'yet another' you'd have to show us where I've posted with out a 'fact' - better you deal with the thread were you claim that - having started the thread where a politician makes a dubious prediction ... ;)

Msg 2

Are you out of control? It was clearly stated that the information gathered in Msg 1 was 2nd/3rd hand without verification but open for discussion/debate. Next time you post a 'factual statement' please copy & paste your affidavit certified certificate of truth!

Dear Rowlo

It's only because you support Rangers that I won't instruct the men in the black transit - who 'cleared the press' from Giggsy's place to refrain from visiting you ..... ;))

Now, could you explain HOW discussing a huge trade deficit gets you SO worked up ... unless you haven't down a few chasers...? :P

Oh I'm quite sure the UN Security Council Resolutions of '74 ... ( it was a VOTE ) are having their effect..

Do I support compliance with UN Security council resolutions ( which the UK voted for - YES.. ) .. Do I support the EU initiatives to promote Green line trade - YES.. The TCs voted YES to a change in 2004 - that needed to have some reward

This thread was started re an interest in the figures...

>>the general point I s'ppose is that the finances of the

1/ phoney - I don't know.. i'm asking

2/ bankrupt / non-viable - sure.. but this is a surreal situation

3/ Greece et all - they aren't in a 17:1 TD situation..

MM without knowing how the figures are derived its hard to know what they say about the TRNC in comparison to other countries. Do they include tertiary industries or not ? (things like tourism). We just do not know because we have no source for the figures.

Msg 10

'without knowing how the figures are derived its hard to know what they say....'

Best employ a Greek Government Financial Economic Advisor and ask how they fabricated and hoodwinked themselves into the € zone!

Brinsley I think you are giving the Greeks too much credit. Why would I go to the Greeks for such help, I would go to the real experts like Goldman Sachs and J P Morgan Chase
