I was reading the front page of the Afrika newspaper this morning and since the "accidental" fire, it has become apparent that the Cratos Hotel has unpaid electricity bills of 4 million TL! Why are they allowed to continue operating and why are they not cut off? Is it any wonder why the electricity bills are so high in the TRNC!

Allegedly all the major hotels, business's, municipalities, government offices etc owe big bucks in electricity fees.

According to a local source they were threatened with having their elctricity cut off about 10 days ago or so before the fire but a call made to a government official was made and they asked not to be cut off as there was a problem with the generator. They deny this of course.

I think it's a disgrace and the so called management of this hotel should be named and shamed on national TV. Any idiot can make a profit if you don't pay the bills. This is the hotel that was prepared to spend millions just to have Jennifer Lopez at the opening, yet when it comes to the basics like the electric bill, no one from the hotel seems to be held accountable. This is one of the most expensive hotels in the TRNC yet they have little regard for the locals and their economy. Why should the residents of the TRNC be forced to pay excessive electricity bills to keep these cowboys in business? What is KIBTEK thinking??? They should disconnect anyone for non payment and maybe that way they'll start receiving the much needed revenues required to update the power system. It's a shame the glossy holiday brochures don't publish how much they own to the local community next to their boasting star ratings. Definitely a hotel to avoid until they come to their sense and pay up!

msg 10, I think you need to read the papers more, Les. The Jo-Lo thing wasn't something a C44 member cooked up on here, it really was part of the plan for the opening. However, you're right, whether the story was fact or fiction it never happened. But you only needed to Google Cratos and Jo-Lo to see it was a widely publicised story before you very quickly assumed that was gullable.

More gossip a local told me last night that every time theCratos has a big name booked to appear Kib-Tek will cut the power. So thats great for the residents in Catalkoy as they are linked to the same power line as Cratos. Thanks a bunch.

Why doesn't Kibtek just cut the power off anyway? Why wait for the hotel to hold a big event?

Rowlo, you're wrong. Even J-Lo on her own website gave the reasons she pulled out of the deal after pressure from the GCs.

Well my landlord managed to have me registered on to the wrong meter last August. I paid two bills last year and then queried why my bills were so high (looks like I was paying the rent for the rest of the apartment block!) so the landlord said he'd sort it and I shouldn't pay any more bills (not that bills were being sent to us!). Two weeks ago we were cut off cos the landlord hasn't paid 'his' bill which is registered to my shop. I've been pestering him ever since to pay the bill and he's still dragging his feet. Trouble is I just don't know what to do - is there anyone I can turn to for help? The lecky board don't want to know, they told me "whether it's your fault or our fault, you have to pay and you have to resolve any problems yourself"!
