Come on folks, the guy may have made a mistake with his reckoning up but that doesn't alter the fact that it seems a pretty expensive day on the beach. Are there really so many tourists here that business can risk ripping them off and so losing return guests.

hattikins - you beat me to it! As you say, even if the bloke was out a couple of lira with his adding up, I think the prices are an absolute rip-off. Mind you, I've thought that for a few years now. It's not only that the entrance charge is extortionate, it's the food and drink prices once you're there. Oh, and woe betide anyone who tries to "smuggle" anything in there of their own, e.g. drinks. Strangely, I've heard people rave about it, although I've never seen a huge attraction. It is a nice enough beach and in a good position, but for those prices, it needs to be

A couple of years ago, I launched my Jetski from Sunset beach club intending to meet up with friends at Escape, tied up to a bouy and swam in to the beach, Immediatly I was pounced upon and told that I had to pay the (then) 10TL , entrance fee, My point that I'd Not crossed their land to gain access to a PUBLIC beach fell on deaf ears, I dug my heels in and the Police were duly called, who (Much to the disgust of the Escape Staff), said that I was in the right.

L A Hotel in Lapta has a lovely sandy beach with a large pool and large jacuzzi overlooking it. They charge 10tl for the day and beers are 5tl. They also do food at reasonable prices with the new chef that has arrived from the colony hotel in Girne. Well worth a visit

It would be nice if we could get a statement from the Escape Beach management to explain why they charge so much and whether locals (ie repeat users) could achieve a discount. I know they need to make money but surely the food / drink sales can offset the entrance fee.

Maybe you could give Vogue Beach Club in Catalkoy a go this year. The owner has worked extremeley hard this year making improvements to the pool and surrounding areas. The beach is also very nice and there are watersports available inc jet skis, inflatables, wakeboarding etc all at reasonable prices. You could also enjoy a Thai massage which is new at Vogue this year. The food at Vogue has improved considerably and is also at reasonable prices. Entrance fee is free at the moment and then will be just 10tl pp children free.

Will have to get Haluk from Kibris Star on the case again. He went there and they tried to charge him - took his camera out, asked to speak to anyone in charge and voila - free to park but would have to pay to use a sunbed. He said it was illegal to charge to go on the beach as the beach is NOT part of Escape property. There are only two beaches which are private so he told us, I remember that LA Hotel was one but can't remember which the other is but it certainly was not Escape.

Visited escape beach in the 1960s and 1970s when it was known as Bambi Beach. It was free of admission fees and devoid of concrete. It was a beautiful sandy beach with coral reefs towards the small island inhabited by a wealth of marine life and fish of all sizes and colours. More than two families there on the same day was a crowd. The only building was a wooden fish restaurant above the beach which opened twice per week. In the last 7 years here I drive past Escape Beach regularly but never stop, not even to have a look, as I do not wish to pollute the many wonderful memories I have of watching my children grow up in what was to us, as a family, one of the finest places on earth.

Sssshhhhhhhhhhhhhh, don't tell everyone about Golden bay, we don't want it overcrowded. If you go to Kervansaray, try the food at Ayse's restuarant. the food is very good and prices are very reasonable. A family run business.

geronimo msg 26 The Celebrity is the only other privately owned beach. Not only do Escape Beach folk have no right to charge for use of the beach as they do not own it, they, by virtue of their lease and operating licence, must provide unfettered access to the beach. They can only charge for additional services they provide, which is fair but it's up to you if you think their charges are worth the service you get.

Message one I can't get over you paying 90 TL for six ice creams !!!! ie. £ 6 per ice cream ?! HAVE YOU NOT HEARD OF THE WORDS "NO WAY JOSE !!" Because you paid, (start of season) without complaint to them AT THE TIME, they will expect EVERYONE to pay the same this year. Come on people, if you are being ripped off, then be vociferous and bloody minded about it at the time. Make a fuss so that everyone around you hears the commotion. Lets put a stop to it so that we can enjoy life here again as it used to be. The same applies in restaurants and shops, embarrass those trying to rip you off. Call the police if necessary, take photos of those perpetrating the rip off. Be FIRM but in control and offer NO violence !! ( I have to keep reminding myself of the last sentence !!!! LMAO) Gerry Gerry

Sorry if this has already been posted - just saw the first posting. I went to Golden Bay last week - it has been cleaned up and the astraturf has been renewed plus the rocky area adjacent has been sanded and new sunbeds have been put in place. The Beach looks as though its been tickled up as well. Only 5TL each - same as last year - plus the cafe is very reasonable and the service good and friendly. It is run by Sri Lankans and they are the same friendly people that greet us every year when we go - couldnt want for a better day!

Back in the 80's and early 90's when Escape was Bambi and owned by Ekrem it was a great place to go. I think entry was equivalent of 1tl. Ekrem had a lease that came of course from the Mosque. A Turkish General saw the property as his relative wanted it. Ekrem knew at that point he had no chance to renew the lease and so had to give it up. The new people turned it into Escape and thus we have what is there today. If you remember, Ekrem had an outdoor oven in which he made a baked fish dish that was to die for. Very few places make this dish any more. But it was great, the food was good and he had lots of TRNC higher ups that would come with their families, sit and eat in the restaurant on the point and from there watch the children swim. He even had UN soldiers that would frequent quite often and also reserve the place for parties. Ekrem had owned a Fish and Chips across from Scotland Yard before this in his years in London and that's where his restaurant background started.

I agree about Golden Bay compared with Escape, but personally we prefer Deniz Kizi which is basically the other half of the bay where Golden Bay is. It costs 6 lira as opposed to 5, but is cleaner and has better quality beds and parasols.

Can I remind everyone that money spent on enjoyment & leisure is never wasted! I have enjoyed some unbelievable days over the last 8 years on Escape beach enjoying the great service, food & facilities, I fully appreciate that some days a basic beach will suffice but if you want a bit of self indulgence blow the moths out of your wallets and treat yourselves!!
