Hi all, this is my first post so be gentle. I am visiting my parents in September who live near Famagusta. I have been told that recently people who have entered the TRNC through Ercan/Gecitkale and who have tried to enter the South have been refused by the Greek Police. Apparently the Greek Police told them that because they have entered Cyprus via an illegal entry piont they are not allowed to travel into the South. I have visited the TRNC many times including last September and never had this problem before.

Regards Doc

Doc,

Welcome to the forum. As far as you are a citizen of EU, they cannot interfere with your free entry and exit into sourth Cyprus.

I was also told that if my passport has a Turkish stamp (it has ) that I would not be allowed to travel to Greece, guess that includes Southern Cyprus. Am hoping to get to Girne via Larnaca this summer, will I have any problems ?

Joolsa (Msg8), When you say Turkish stamps, I'm guessing you mean TRNC stamps. A couple of friends of mine have just flown in and out of Larnaca with 5-6 TRNC stamps in their passport. As fas I can remember, the passport contol in the south only look at the photo page anyway. Believe me, the north / south border crossing is much more of a hassle than the Larnaca airport passport control.

I've never been refused entry to the South on a NZ passport, near on full with TRNC in/out stamps, temporary visitor visa's etc. I never use the white paper slip and it's always well scrutinised by the Greek immigration officers.

I am amazed at the "advice" being given by people who obviously know so much.

But Elko has it right. If you are from the European Union there will be no problems, but the Greek Cypriot administration will not accept this if you are from India, America, South Africa, New Zealand or somewhere else. That is where the trouble can start.

If you are British, then there should be no problems.

I have about 20 Turkish visa's in my passport, I have been to Greece and Larnaca no problems what so ever, when I entered North from Larnaca the taxi driver did get the paper slip stamped though, no problem entering Turkey with Greek stamp either.

Dear Doc

To reiterate:

where you've been - what stamps you have ( other than being denied entry in another EU state - for reasons of public health or national security) are the ONLY reasons you can be refused entry to the RoC

Hint : if you are crossing south to north - don't call it a 'border' - unless you want a 'history lesson to be 'delayed', etc.,

The 'Greek' Police are in GREECE.. the police you encounter at RoC crossing pint are CYPRIOTS.. don't 'encourage 'em by calling 'em 'Greek' ;)

If you are worried cross at the check point run by the Brits were the 'TRNC' abuts the SBA ( Sovereign Base Area ) NOT the 'rump' RoC

Those two places are Pergamos ( sorry - forgot the TR name) - near Pile / Pyla or Black Knight ( four mile / two mile - crossing) at Ayios (Saint) Nicholas - in between Famagusta and Larnaca.. The policeman are local emplyed by the UK and are TCs and GCS working alongside each other.

Don't carry documentation in relation to property.

You will find that if you have a NZ passport showing place of birth as UK, no problem!

Let us get this clear, If you have any EU passport they will not and CAN not prevent you passing , (you could as mmmmmm's says get delayed if you give them lip) Any other passport COULD in theory be prevented but in practice it is not, apart from some isolated incidents.

Those carrying American, Canadian, Kangaroo or Kiwi passports are allowed into ROC as a discretion i.e. the situation can change at any moment or you may be at the mercy of the police officer on duty at the time if your travel documents arecarry TRNC stamps. Be warned.
