I expect this issue has been aired before but I would like 44ers to comment re connection charges from road to apartment block. Whilst we have been content to use a mobile, for some years now plus our computer for communication with locals and UK, the question of connection to landline- all the flats or nothing event has arisen within the block. It wont make an iota of difference to us as we cannot see why the matter has been raised after nearly ten years of no connection. It does mean paying out for this plus monthly charges for what? we dont want to look meanies but also we dont want to pay for something that we obviously dont need. Can anyone tell us what the benefits are? does it make the property more saleable?

I really can't see that having a land line is going to make an apartment more saleable somehow. Yes, it's very nice to have a land line because it opens up the possibility of using ADSL which is a much better and cheaper option for internet. However, as most of the people who buy apartments seem to be using them only for holidays, it would hardly be worth the cost of installation and the ongoing charges. Also it would seem that although most apartments have telephone points fitted, the builders have not paid for the cabling to be done and I dread to think what the phone company are likely to charge to do this work. I did make an enquiry for a friend several years ago for a phone installation in an apartment and the guy in the phone office nearly fell off his chair laughing at the thought of the cost!

We have a landline but when we changed over to ADSL we had nothing but problems, the connection was useless, most of the time if the phone was clear then ADSL didn't work and vice versa. I lost count of the number of times we had them out to sort it, all to no avail, I believe that it has something to do with where you are in relation to the ADSL base. As for telephone, we paid 230TL for connection, there is a standing charge of 9TL per month and the call costs are very reasonable.

If you are a long way from the exchange and the ADSL kit DSLAMS are old technology - then you'll HATE a wired connection In most places you'll get an estimated speed - based on your line - before you order..

I've never had any problems with ADSL in Lapta - had it ever since the service was available. I pay for 4MB, via Xrealnet, and on average get around 3.5/3.6. I'm happy with this and the charges are very reasonable
