Hello all

I know this thread has been run along various lines but we have read at all the threads and are now down to the final 3 _and are now stuck ! We just need info now on the packages we are most interested in so that we can make decision before moving out for good (fingers crossed) in Nov. The winners are - in no particular order ha ha

ColdSat - Dopi TV - Showtime Arabia.

Can you help with the following info ;

Probs with freezing/losing signal/poor quality picture/after sales/premiership and uk channels availability/scrambling

In particular with Showtime Arabia - is it possible to purchase your own subscription/receiver anywhere ?

We know set up costs etc but just want peoples experienced opnions before deciding which will be keeping us company by the open fire on a winters night !!! (allowing for powercuts ha ha).

Ta

Hi,

with a 50 or 60 cm dish and a 'free to air' satellite receiver 30/40 GBP in UK you can get plenty of english language films, news, features etc (most films with Arabic subtitling!) from the Nilesat Satellite.

Following is my 'Favourites' setup - a couple of them only show occassional English language programs, but it's not bad for free (and legal)!

Satellite TV FAV Satellite Radio

1 Fox Movies 17 FM 1 BBC (World service)

2 MBC2 18 BBC News 2 Oman

3 MBC3 19 CNN News 3 DW

4 MBC4 20 Dawn News 4 Nile FM

5 MBC Action 21 Nile News 5 Abu Dhabi

6 MTV Arabia 22 DW News 6 EDTV

7 Dubai 1 23 Al Jazeera News 7 European

8 Saudi 2 24 Kuwait CH2 8 Spin Jordan

9 Kuwait TV 25 Salah El Din

10 OTV 26 Huda

11 PSC 27 Show Today

12 City 7 28 Rotana Cinema

13 CCTV9 29 AD Sport TV

14 Arabian Travel 30 JSC Sports 1

15 Fashion 31 Jsc Sports 2

16 Melody Hits 32 Fox Series

I should have known that it would not format sensibly!

There are 2 colums of TV programs, numbered 1 to 16, and 17 to 32, and a column of radio programmes numbered 1 to 8.

If anyone can't make sense of it, let me know, and I'll try again...

Keith.

cleos,

We have had Coldsat Showtime Premier Package for over 2 years and have no complaint on any front. The initial box they used proved to be a bit iffy but was changed as soon as fault discovered.

Except the cost as against some of the newer packages.

Contact them on above no. or I believe e-address is http://www.coldsat.com

re msg 1

if you can't stretch to a 1.8 / 4.2m ( cost / site constraints) then a Nilesat system ( I'd go for a 1m - not smaller - you'll see when when it rains ) is the way to go

Make sure the receiver has a least one CAM ( conditional access module) slot - then you can use any card in a proper hardware CAM - into which you can put the subscription card of your choice

IF you buy a cheaper receiver with software CAMs this rely on software updates to keep them current

Your choice should be based on what your needs are... If you want footie - then AbuDhabi TV on Nilesat or SKY (1.8m/4.2m) are your options.. Note that the contract for footie may change but it is unlikely that the satellite platform would change- if using Nilesat as the platform you need a receiver that you KNOW will work if the footie contract supplier changes

Naturally you could look at a pirate system - with all the inherit risks and lack of guaranteed reception..

mmmmmm,

This thread was started 2 years ago - I don't know why skurry chose to resurrect it with his comment.

If 'cleos' hasn't made her mind up by now, then she probably never will
