I am an Art Psychotherapist moving out to live in the TRNC in March 2009. I have been trying to network with other professionals in the area but am finding a drought around the Creative Therapies?? I am therefore spreading my net a little wider to try and contact other professionals in similar field, i am hoping to set up in private practice in Kibris and would like to make contact with like minded people for help and support.

Hi Blondie35

I don't live in Cyprus at present, but have a place in Lapta. I am a practicing hypnotherapist, coach and OD Consultant. I use alot of metaphor in the way I work with individuals and groups. I would be interested in knowing how you get on. We could meet up next time I am out.

Good luck

Hi Pipie,

Art Psychotherapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art media as its primary mode of communication, art tharapy involves the making of pictures or three dimensional objects in the context of a therapuetic relationship. It is neither art teaching ( a common misconception ) nor is it a diversionary pastime. It is a Psychotherapuetic process, which aims to facilitate change within the indivedual by providing an opportunity for them to express and explore inner conflicts and emotional problems. I work with both adults and children in the feild of mental health, i have also worked within a high forensics hospital for five years. I spend all my time at social gatherings explaining what i do!!!!!! The foundations of AP are based within Psychiatry, is a good non confrontational therapy, is excellent for people who find it difficult to express verbally how they feel, is not quick fix is a long process but works.

I am not sure about this but I think that you may come foul of some legality regarding medical practice and qualifications (even if not charging).

Maybe Ismet could give a thought on this?

I vaguely recall reading several months ago that a mental health retreat was going to be built in a restored carob warehouse somewhere close to Tatlisu near the sea

Perhaps someone may know somwthing more about this and it might be of interest.
