General question : We have a large TC family just moved into the apartment next door to ours. The head of the family is an electrician. There are, as yet, no grounds other than this to suspect they are going to tap into our electric. However, if it transpires that they do, what action can we take to stop it ? i.e. will Kibtek or the police sort it out if we tell them ? We live in the UK and only come out a couple of times a year, so they could have a field day at our expense. Any advice ?

Blimey - isn't this a bit presumptious? Large family + head of family is an electrician = they'll probably nick our electric?

What I didn't mention is that they have already removed some junction box covers in the stair area and there is no reason for them to do this. We do remove our fuse but I don't think that would stop them.

The only reason for my question was to find out what I can do if it occurs. Do the authorities act in such circumstances ?

take a dated photograph of your meter with a local newspaper next to it showing the date if possible and also contact kibtec when you are leaving and give them the reading and explain what you have done,if you really suspect electricity may be stolen in your absense.

All I can suggest is on the day of your departure take a photograph of the meter reading with the date of a daily rag in it, keeping your air flight ticket. If there is any hanky-panky on your return you'll have some evidence to show. If you think it is happening now, switch off the main internal fuse box and then go to your external meter and see if the disc is spinning which it shouldn't be. Richard

What rubbish - and labelling and stereotyping again. If you suspect he is taking your electric remove the fuse and see what happens or have the electric cut off once while your away

Last year I reported a Brit neighbour to the police and Kib-Tek for tapping my electricity from a shared meter box. The police say they need to catch him in the act with his line attached before making an arrest. Kib-Tec have been quite helpful, they identified signs that the line had been tapped but it wasn't not at the time they checked. They also monitor the power when I am away and have agreed to email me if any power is used. It is worth letting them know if you find you have been charged for electricity that you have not used but you do need to take along a TC friend, preferably a politician, to help with the language.

I am trying to understand what is going on here. First of all your fuse supplies power to your meter, with the fuse removed the only way that anyone can 'steal' electricity is is to tap in to the live side of your fuse holder in which case it will not register on your meter so you will not be charged for the illegal extraction of electricity. Why anyone would decide to fit another fuse and take the feed from the output of the meter so that it is taken from your account is beyond me. And with respect to your comment about the removal of covers from junction boxes, there are usually junction boxes that accommodate other services i.e. telephone services, door entrance systems, distributed tv systems etc. If you are fairly local to Alsancak then I am more than willing to come and have a look at what is going on with your setup. Please feel free to e-mail me. AJ

If the guys a spark I would tend to agree with msg18 remove the main fuse He could bypass his own meter without having to touch yours The only down side is if he used his fuse and put it in your cutoff box the connected to your meter, but as I say why would he bother.

Individual issues obviously do occur but to say that "it will or it might " without proof is not right or correct.

Scoty With all due respect how would you expect one on-line moderator to monitor every thread and every post. If the original poster wants the thread closed then they should e-mail forumadmins@cyprus44.com stating the name of the thread and their board name.

Yorgozlu/Msg 22: 'as living half my life in UK did not make me english, nor having british citizenship!' At least you had the right to apply for and be granted British citizenship - not so for Brits, Kiwis, Canucks, etc, living for yonks in TRNC! Now tell us you didn't want it! To get back on this thread subject: if so many of these big [foreign owned] hotels owe 'zillions' to Kibtec, I suggest it's not the foreigners' leccy being hijacked [nicked] by a very few TC's, but the TC's themselves are also being robbed by exhorbitant leccy bills in order to subsidise the non payment of 'the big boys'! Do you agree, Yorgo?
