How do you rid of small birds who are pooing for England.

Terrace areas have been bombarded -help!

We have spiked all of the gutters but the birds seem to be multiplying.

rowlo I think thats a bit misleading, it all depends on what kind of sat dish you have in terms of what pigeons if any you get. A totaly 'legit' system like Turksat will attract the least pigeons and only nice clean ones. 'Grey' systems like sky and OSN will attrached more pigeons and slightly less attractive ones, though the EU may yet get involed and set EU regulations on what kind of pigeons you may get with EU based grey systems. Then you have pure pirate based systems that attracted the most pigeons and really grubby looking ones at that. ;)

Apparently pigeons don't like owls - we got a wooden one that we put on our pergola - no problem now!

WD 40 they wont go near it.. spray it behind your solar panels or tanks , they wont come near . got to do it every 6 months though ,but saves all that netting..and cleaning the s**t out of your gutters . round your pool you needs a dog. good entertainment too.

Reh Yorgozlu, you can't eat old pigeons mate, you will catch something. It's only the young ones that are edible.

You make a model of a hawk put it somewhere where they can see it and see them scarper.

I have had cats all my life and have never had one that managed to get on the roof where ever i lived. There are no tall trees next to my house so how would a cat get on the roof? Go out onto the upstairs balcony and climb up the wall?

I heard a story that if you mix bicarbonate of soda or Alka Seltzer with bread this will do the trick.

Great Horned Prowler Owl

This great horned owl has a massive 4 feet wing span, and is the most realistic of all the owls on the market, with life size accurate markings and flapping wings.

The Great Horned Owl is the most feared predator which catches and eats almost anything that moves, including pigeons, starlings and geese. Mount it up as high as possible, using a broom handle to deter those pest birds, or simply use as an ornament in the garden.

If using to deter pest birds, it is recommended that the bird is moved on a regular basis, so the pest birds do not get used to it and start venturing back into your garden.

Best thing on the market.. http://www.bird-x.co.uk/prowler_owl_predator_decoy.asp

We were infested here also because the house had been empty for quite a long time and they had bred here.

We sorted them out with a really good catapult (bought for spreading groundbait when fishing) and some large dried beans.

Not many pigeons here now and if we see one we just clap our hands.

It really was a horrific problem, guano was about 8 inches high on our upstairs balcony which is underneath the overhanging solar panels and associated tanks and pipework.

The catapult is definitely better than just a cat!

Birds are becoming a significant problem in our society. Another reason for this is that they can cause some fatal health problems through transmitting diseases from their feces. Therefore it is extremely essential to be able to deter them in a secure and humane fashion. Bird control tools like spikes, gels, liquids, netting and audible repellers are available to ensure that the property is safe.

Bird spikes and bird netting keep birds off of surfaces and out of possible nesting or perching cubbyholes. Signs, buildings, piping, railings, statues, architectural elements, beams, rafters, exterior lighting, gutters, antennas, etc. - the potential nesting areas are numerous and varied. If these areas are attracting birds, cover or block them with netting or use spike strips to stop birds from landing. Spikes and netting are made from durable materials that will last outdoors, in all kinds of weather, when installed correctly. And for the aesthetically-minded, netting and spikes are not eye sores. Even on a 1-story building roofline, these barriers to birds fade into the background and preserve your property values

I had a problem with pigeons, I used a combination of netting & wire mesh to prevent them gaining acess to their favorite places.

They keep returning & its just a matter of observing their new roosting place & act to deter them using whatever practical method.

The last straw that made them leave was when I placed some sharp thorn bushes in the gutter. (those long thistles you see growing wild do the same job)

Buy one of those plastic pump up water guns that the kids use. They have a good range, certainly up to the roof. They might not all go away but its great fun and wont damage the roof.
