A friend of a friend of a friend visited the new Noah's Ark, East of Bafra. Huge 'ark shaped', with one end into a concrete white cube shape. What's with the white construction ? the friend of friends asked. Reply - that's the iceberg !

We had a look at it ourselves a few weeks ago before it was opened and that confused us as well. Is it supposed to be the white painted stern? ...................... Or the engine room!! Boom Boom..

The construction and design is fabulous though and you do have to admire their optimism, not only have they built this huge hotel in the middle of nowhere, but also extra blocks of rooms in the grounds. I'd still love to have a look around though and wonder what their room tariff will be this time next year.

Why do I get that sinking feeling about it all? Iceberg? Titanic|? Oh well, I guess it is a case of sink or swim!

We all need to look at this kind of investment in positive way, if a hotel of this size and quality can be built here in TRNC then its upto the company to fill it, instead for some reason we take the negative view.

The more big investment that takes place here can only be a positive move for North Cyprus.

I hope they do well in this economic disaster zone, it cant be easy.

It is worth a drive to take a look, take the new road past Tatlisu over the mountain, this will bring you to the bafra area, turn right and the about 200m turn left. well signposted at this point. And its a nice drive through a part of the island that im sure many people have never ventured to.

Have fun!

Big investment is one thing... building monstrous eyesores that you can't hope to make pay is another.

Investment needs to be targeted at the need. Do we need more hotel rooms?

Hoteliers are complaining at lack of tourists by the minute so more empty rooms would seem to be far from the greatest need.

If the business plan looks like this....

1 Build big hotel with borrowed money

2 Recruitment Drive

3 Grand Opening

4 No Customers

5 Mass Lay-offs

6 Scarper before the money lenders get their mitts on you

7 Leave derelict building for someone else to worry about

Then it's not a good plan - but one that is followed over and over....

Msg. 8 you sound as if you're talking about the new Marie Monte complex at Alsancak.

1. 1000 more beds

2. Introducing Japanese & Chinese tourists to TRNC because they like gambling, history & the coast

3. Shopping Malls

4. A zoo!!

5. City Terrace concept

However, they do have a better track record I suppose i.e. Merit Crystal Cove, Merit City Hotel and the new Merit Green Gardens in Iskele.

Large track of land plus 352 surrounding donums. Heaven help the people who have bought property in that area. Just imagine the noise, dust and general upheaval for about 5 years maybe!!

Wow. Tango, haven't heard of that. A zoo???? And shopping malls? Exhorbitant rents and no takers? But I can look down on it from a great height (I live in the mountains above) but I bet the dust rises to create even more filth. And who is the finance behind it all?

just curious.

Worry not, they'll only be slowly coming in, 2 by 2!
