| Speaking to reporters, Üstel said that the TRNC was taking part in the fair in order to draw the attention of the Iranian tourist market. He said that Iranian tourists had a characteristic to be good spenders while on holiday, contributing to the development of the economy of the country they were visiting. “We are promoting and adverstising our country’s history, culture, natural wealth as well as our hotels, beaches and cuisine at our stand” the Minister added. The Tourism Minister also met with officials SKY airlines to discuss the possibility of introducing regular flights to the island from Iran. |

| Msg 5 Not so much directed at individual Iranians, but the whole idea of the TRNC Government concentrating its Tourism effort on a Country that has a very dubious human rights record. TRNC is geared up to Western standard tourism expectations. Legal bars, poor to excellent restaurants offering an array of international cuisine, casino's, girlie clubs, a good variation of * hotels, good beaches (some naturism), women allowed to wear what they wish etc etc. I cannot see too much repeat business coming from this Country. | Brinsley. The TRNC is not " concentrating" its efforts on Iran, it is trying its best to attract as many people as possible to the island and in my opinion this year its not actually doing a bad job!! If you look at the hotels a lot are full at the moment. What people dont see though is they are full of non British and again you might be suprised to know but these people are actually interested in the island, the culture and want to go out and see the sites. Unfortunatly for local bars etc they dont want to sit drinking all day. The goverment here gets a lot of bad press regarding tourism, but i say hats off to them because they arnt doing a bad job at the moment. Iranians are a little bit more cultured than you think, just because their "government" dont fit in with western standards, dosnt mean they all think the same way. |

| Msg 7 'If you look at the hotels a lot are full at the moment.' Not true, plenty of bed space! I would like to think that the majority of visitors, no matter where they are from, will do a full cultural tour of all the Historical sites, but I wonder how many read books about the recent history of the Island and its long turbulent past? I suggest, not many! Please justify why certain Iranian individuals are not allowed to leave their Country? Richard |

| Brinsley, why do i have to justify why certain Iranian individuals can’t leave their country??? What has that got to do with them coming to the TRNC? One minute you say there are no tourists, the government is useless, now you’re saying, because Iran has a bad human rights record we don’t want them! Does that apply to other country’s as well? Surely it doesn’t matter where people come from, its not a state visit, its people trying to see new cultures and country’s and if they choose to come here, that has to be good for the TRNC. I doubt many tourists know the "Recent history and turbulent past” of the island, in fact I know they don’t because I speak to them! Why would they? Again, until you have a qualification in Cyprus history are you not allowed to come here? Sorry but a lot of hotels are full. Could you tell me where there is plenty of bed space? |

Dont judge a book by its cover they are humans you know take each person for themselves !! |

| Mes 11, your link relates to May 2010, it’s June 2011! Yes there is room for more, but a lot of hotels are full! Why does the government not encourage return trade? What exactly do they need to do? How can this be judged until 2012? For years people haven’t come here, but this year there is a marked upturn. There is a lot of room for improvment but maybe someone is doing something right at last. |

| Just what the tourism industry needs---a bunch of brain washed anti-western zealots! You can be pretty sure that those who do come here will have been well vetted by the Iranian secret police as they wouldn't want any defections would they? |

| Msg 13, Richard what does that tell you? That the Hotel Association are not very happy and stopped publishing the stats because occupancy rates have dropped! Encouraging return trade should have been part and parcel of the hotel and tourism business but thier attitude has been one of "take it or leave it!" Just like the property scene! Don't hold your breath for change, it's all a PR campaign, nothing else! |

| TRNC should concentrate more on attracting trade and tourists from nations outside the EU & UK. Many millions of tourists visit Turkey each year from outside the EU, these countries include Iran/USSR/ex-USSR/Arab states/.. This shows there is a lot of untapped trade. Turkish Cypriots / TRNC have been knocking on Europe & UK's door for decades, and nothing. Not even a direct flight from the UK, where many Turkish Cypriots live and are inconvenienced by 1hr stopover each way.. The sooner TRNC starts making new links to other friendly nations, the better in my opinion. Old friends have not delivered.. Time to move on. |
