Hello. We've had our place in Lapta for some time now, but not being there all the time we're unsure about local tradesmen. We'd like to get an extension built; does anyone have any advice about this?

Thanks a lot.

Try Sydney Construction. They are extremely reliable and build to an excellent standard. They are very trustworthy too. Quite rare over here!!

Try Hasan and Ozbey at the yapi mar up in the village, Ozsan I think it's called. They'll give youa good quote and first class service in my opinion .

Speak to Celal down at Ersem Trading's shop - diagonally opposite the nearest Starling to Lapta. Very nice people to deal with and they do all kinds of building work.

Kim97......presumably you DO have your Kocan? Otherwise it is believed that you would not be able to proceed until the property was in your name.

crofter is correct, you must hold your kocan before altering a property from the original submitted plans/permissions.

Assuming plans were submitted etc etc.

Choosing a builder here is akin to choosing the least rotten apple from a barrel .best of luck to you ...Make sure your Kocan etc is all in order....

Kim

I think you'll find you need planning permission before starting work. I can recommend Mehmet Ucuk the architect/engineer (Ucuk Designs) on the right just past the Ship on the way into Girne) He will prepare plans & submit them on your behalf to obtain all the necessary licence & permissions.

Starting to build without a licence could result in the work being stopped by the beladiyesi and nasty red & white tape being fastened round your project!

Good luck!

Oh yes, the nasty red and white tape...it's appearing like a rash all over the place lately. Have you notice?. Someone, somewhere is obviously doing joined up writing and checking these things out nowadays.

We had a notice yesterday from the dostict office saying any extentions or illegal projects would be stopped snd the owners taken to court. There are about 10 houses on our site that have virtually been rebuilt in the last year twice the size they started and others with may alterations. No red tape though. But isnt it shutting the door when the horse has gone?
