Info/advice needed for friend who is on holiday here. His son had an accident at the villa he is staying in, an ambulance was called and the parents were instructed by the ambulance crew to keep up with them as my friend did not know the location of Girne hospital. During his journey he went through several speed camera's doing in excess of the speed limit so we assume he will have speeding tickets. Does anyone know whether he has any chance of not getting fined due to the circumstances? Incidentally his son was transferred from Girne to Lefkosa Hospital for immediate surgery. Any sensible advice please will be very much appreciated.

My boss here had similar experience, he was rushing to the hospital with a seriously ill friend and managed to get zapped by 3 cameras! He explained to the police the circumstances and was let off. Have a word with the police station ı am sure they will get it sorted.

I would suggest going to the police station with if available a turkish speaking assistant and explaining the situation. If there is any way that it can be avoided I would assume that doing it now would be better than waiting for the process to start. Once the peperwork is started I think it would be hard to stop it in this beaurocracy unless you are Ismet

I believe if you are following an ambulance, you keep your hazard lights on and your main beam to let people know what is going on including the police. This way you shouldn't have any problems. I know this information too late for your friend but may help someone in the future. I hope your friend makes a speedy recovery! Chris

The police can sometimes be sympathetic so go along and explain the circumstances as my friend was let off a fine when her husband was taken ill on the way back from Essentepe. She did get a letter from the hospital to prove they had actually been there.
