I have already taken lessons in the UK and passed my theory test, do I need to do anything like that again here?

Go to Ozbek driving school near Girne police station. They speak English and are very good. My wife passed her "test" through them.

It's also worth noting that once you have a TRNC licence, if you go back to the UK, you can use it there. And if you go back to live there, you can exchange it for a full UK licence.

thank you for that.

yes I was thinking that if I was ever back in the UK I could sit a test there and get a UK licence also but use my time in TRNC to gain experience on the road before sitting another practical test.

"you can exchange it for a full UK licence"?? I didnt know that, I thought I'd have to resit. Ive got a UK provisional licence and already had about 40 hours of lessons.

Ive heard that here youre only shown how to drive, which I already know, so will 1-2 lessons be enough? or is there and actual test?

If you've had 40 hours of UK lessons, you'll sail through the test in Cyprus.

You have to have a work permit or residency to get a TRNC licence

the course is a compulsory 10 lessons ,the fee is about £550 ,this covers your provisional licence a theory test,10 lessons, the driving test and if successful conversion of your licence for one year

Being nosey - what work do you do here? Very hard to get jobs or a work permit these days in TRNC unless you are Turkish or Turkish Cypriot.

Can you please tell me how you can exchange a TRNC full licence in the UK for a full UK licence. Its the first time i have heard it this way round, although I know you can exchange a UK licence for a TRNC one here.

I'll stand to be corrected .. But ..

A TRNC driving licence will not be acceptable for the free "MOT" document to the Greek side ..

I think it must be tied in with a UK passport ..

Re Msg 3 and 10. I apologise. The rules have changed since I was involved with driving licences. You can drive on the TRNC licence for up to 12 months. If you want to continue driving after a year, during the 12 months you must take and pass the UK test. After the 12 months, the TRNC licence is no longer valid, and if you want to continue driving, but have not passed the test, you must hold a UK provisional licence, and only drive within the conditions of the provisional licence. (In particular, the supervising driver must be at least 21 years old and have held a full licence for at least 3 years)

Added to above.

There is a workaround provided you are NOT normally resident in the UK.

You can use the TRNC licence in the UK as a visitor for up to 12 months. This is not cumulative, but is counted from the date you last entered the UK.

You can use the KKTC licence to obtain the free MOT certificate BUT ONLY if your sPouse is TC. They tried this one on me and I objected as I had used my KKTC licence before to get an mot. They really don't like doing this but they can't refuse you if your spouse is TC. I made them write a note on the MOT certificate to advise the next person that it can be done.

My problem being my UK licence no longer has a valid UK address on it and I understand that you cannot change the address on your licence unless you reside in UK.

The GC police like to have details of your UK licence so that they can send you any penalty notices now they are in the EU. They don't seem to understand that if you live in KKTC they won't be able to serve any penalty notice on you , in the UK.
