I use economycarhire.com It is a blue and orange website. No extras to pay. They use all the best carhire firms in Larnaca. I tend to go for Budget very good service. They allow their cars to go North. Don't forget to buy insurance at the border. AP

Hi Aripointer, can you book online with economycarhire.com put in pick up Larnaca, drop off Larnaca, then it will be fine to use North. Or do you need to call them and make booking over the phone to explain that you are going North also? Thank you I have used Pacific Car Rental in North twice and very good service and extremely helpful. Picked me up at the border (when I travelled by bus to Nicosia), or you can pay from taxis transfer from airport.

Hi sunshinelady Yes you can book online. Put in pick up Larnaca Airport and drop off Larnaca Airport. There are two websites for Economy make sure you use the Orange and Blue site. I have used Budget from the site over twenty times with no probs with crossing the border. New cars, fast pick up and drop off service. The rep is always there to meet and greet with your name up on a board. As I said no problems with going North. I always put down my Karmi address on the form and UK and TRNC phone numbers. They will tell you to buy insurance at the border AP

Hi, We use A One and have done for the past few years, Last yeras car literally just had the delivery milegae on it , it was brand spanking new, and also the pick up and drop off to Larnaca is only £25.00 each way, All very profesional and no waiting around at Larnaca, all in all IMHO good value for money. http://www.aone-cyprusrentacar.com/

Hi Aripointer Thank you for your reply...sorry to ask again. But I just went on the website and get quote and then you get list of loads of different cars, and a drop down menu. So I clicked on them and the following was listed: Border Exit: Vehicles are not permitted to enter the Northern part of Cyprus (the area under Turkish occupation), or any other country, as this will invalidate the insurance. ?? So again is it ok, do they turn a blind eye and you just buy the insurance at border. Just me and my son and of course want to make sure ok thank you again.. It was on this one http://www.economycarhire.com/

Hi sunshinelady Yes you are on the right site. Take no notice of the disclaimer ( Economy are only a broker).Your contract is with the car hire company. As I said I always book with Economy using Budget Car Hire. Friends of mine use Avis using the same website with no problems. Good cars good prices. The border insurance booths are not 24hrs. If you arrive late the police usually call an agent in. I do have a phone number for an insurace agent who said it takes him 10mins to get to the border to issue insurance. AP

Whatever you do, stay clear of Andy's Car Hire company. They have just conned me out of £150 for not reading their small print about going to North Cyprus. A company to stay clear of.

Definition of conned open to debate methinks. It is only a con if the small print was deliberately obscure in my opinion. H

It really depends on what you want to do, if you just want to get picked up at an airport, and spend all your time in the TRNC then the car hire companies listed here are fine, BUT.....if you want to see the whole island you'll need to hire a car which is registered in the South. You also need to hire from a firm that will let you take the car across the Green Line. We've used Fontana: http://www.cyprus-car.com/ a number of times, and found their service very good. They'll meet you at Larnaka or Pafos airport with a sign with your name on, you fill in the paperwork and you're away. They are more expensive than the TRNC based companies, BUT you're not paying taxi fares to and from the airport. Too many English tourists holiday on only part of Cyprus (North or South), but the crossings have now been open for 8 years, so why not see the whole island?

Hi! When we have picked up a car in the south, we have used Stevens car Hire - http://www.stevenscarrentals.com/, very competitive and relaible, they meet you at Larnaca with keys, advise about insurance at border, then just leave the car at Larnaca airport when you leave. Haven't hired in the north yet - but like the look of A One prices and service - just makes life a bit awkward if you want to travel to the south from time to time during the stay.
