I drove this route today. From Karsiyaka coffee shop to Polis is 120km. It took 2 hours steady driving (63 yr old driver, Citroen Picasso). The roads are good, especially beyond the border. It's an alpine route, many hairpins and ascents and descents (1 in 10 uphill and downhill normal for the area around the border). It's pleasant driving and lovely scenery. I reckon it's 2h20m to Paphos centre. But a real country route as opposed to Mways. The border crossing is a doddle; the TRNC Police very polite and happy (as always), the Greek Police the same, simply waving you through. No queuing at all, and Insurance booth open.

Snap! we finally made the crossing last week, and what a fabulous experience it was. We love Yesilirmak, and visit there a lot, to see Ishmail the artist and his Wooden Faces of Cyprus.....but, finally decided to go a bit futher. As you say, a doddle.....no queues, beautiful scenery. Didn't quite make it down to Polis, we were doing a bit of a 'reccie' really....but will be going back again soon.

Message 5....know where you mean, we go to that bay often, usually to Vouni King Restaurant. Love it there, it is so peaceful, shame it is such a long way from Bellapais.......still, well worth the trip.

It's a bit further, new asphalt road, very winding ascent with lots of crassh barriers. About 10 mins. drive after Yesiliirmak.

If it's the road I'm thinking of it takes you out at Kato Pyrgos. Beautiful scenery, high winding roads. If you go, call in at the church at Kato Pyrgos - the priest there is the father of a guy I used to rent a house from in Agia Varvara before I moved to Lapta. Nice chap, will make you welcome. Then go onto Latchi for the best fish on the island.

When you are in Yeshilirmak, stop at Shefika's place and say hello. When you get to Polis look for my two escaped donkeys GR and Oracle. Can't miss them they have a huge stamp on their butts.
