SYLVIE ..SOME COMPANIES WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO TAKE THEIR CARS TO THE NORTH ,BUT SOME WILL. IF YOU FIND ONE THAT DOES ALLOW IT YOU HAVE TO GET INSURANCE AT THE BORDER FOR THE NORTH.BE AWARE THATTHE INSURANCE YOU BUY AT THE BORDER IS NOT COMPREHENSIVE IN OTHER WORDS IF YOU HAVE AN ACCIDENT YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY YOURSELF FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR CAR AND IF IT IS NOT ROAD WORTHY YOU HAVE TO PAY YOURSELF TO GET IT BACK TO THE SOUTH I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU ....

Spud, the best route to Esentepe is in my opinion through Pyla crossing. Before crossing the border there is a little house on the right who sells the 3rd party insurance (35 euros, and is for a months cover). The route has been explained on another thread here, will try to dig it out for you but going out now.

Spud You won't need anything except your rental agreement and your MONEY Use the Pyla border from Larnaca , it takes just over an hour. Insurance is 35ytl and you can have an Efes or a Keo in the cafe !!

To reinforce what coachie says. You rent a car in the south, you get third party only cover at the crossing point. So if you have an accident you are responsible for all damge to your vehicle. Also the repatriation of that vehicle to its base. Also in any accident if you or yours are injured you will be responsible for all hospital care costs. You may be insured through your travel insurance but you must check that at source. It is so easy to do all this booking of cars etc and look at the "cheap cost". It is fine withou incident but if you do have an accident watch out!!

We always get picked up from the airport by the Rose Gardens car service we also hire a car from them, if we need to go South we have to get permission in writing from the hire company who give it freely, you are then ony insured 3rd party. Email: rosegardens40@hotmail.com They can give you rates etc... Vicki

It is easy and trouble free if you do it this way. First arrange a pickup or hire car delivery to the North of the 'border', then take a taxi from the airport in the South to the 'border' making sure that the pickup in the North knows what time you are going to be there. Do the normal stuff with your passport and walk across the 'border' and pick up your car or transfer to your ultimate destination. If you need any help then e-mail me. AJ

britvic. The answer is in the question!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are only insured third party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would you do the same with insurance anywhere else in the world? I think the answer is NO!! Just imagine the worst case scenario and you are laying dead at the side of the road. What will you family think when they have to fork out several thousand pounds to get your body back to UK!! If you were in Florida you would be paying all the excess cover etc for insurance. Why do British people leave their thinking heads at home when they come to Kuzy Kibris.

Spud1 Just make sure that the car hire company allows you to take the car into the north, some will and some will not.If you do not intend to come back into the south whilst you are there ,why not use one of the north companies who will collect you from Larnaca and take you back for about £70 return that is as long as you hirea car from them...

Hi spud Make sure you get to the border before 12.00am as the last time i went across from larnaca in a hire car from the south i had to wait untill the insurance guy came out at 5.45am. Also found it exspensive doing it this way. Much prefare now to get a taxi form the north and car hire aswell. Best Regards Ron(aldo).
