Its interesting to follow the imminent outcome of a trial going on in the UK at the moment regarding someone harrassing a company/person via an internet forum

It is the Puddock case, where someone hounded another with continued harrassment and making libellous statements on the Internet, if this goes as the media expect it is going to have many reparcussions for forums like this one and those who make unfounded accusations.

There are many people looking on from the sidelines preparing to go to court on the back of the result of the case

*excellent*

I think there is a big difference in a forum and squabbling and setting up a website to actually name & shame some one and also setting up false social network accounts and the likes.

What happens in cyp44 is alot different to what that man was doing.

But lets wait and see,it could be a great move forward,or backwards!

Does sound like an intersting case to me. Have to say my gut reaction is that if the information published is true, then just because it published in lots of places does not in my view equate to harrasment. Setting up false accounts in the name of someone else to direct people to the published information is different though. That is wrong and should be sanctionable by law, existing or new if necessary, but its not harrassment per say. Fraud maybe ?

[off topic]

Amanda

I dont hold grudges, believe strongly in the usefullness of 'face to face' meeting with people who seem to have got the wrong impression about me (and visa versa) via forum only posting but I also do not behave differently in the 'cyber world' than I do the real one. I am same in each , though am more often misunderstood / misinterpeted in the cyber for obvious reasons.

Anyway I will try and pass by again some time when I get the chance.

I would say in general we do have a right to freedom of speech but I do not think that means we have a right to exercise it here on this board. In general say in the UK my right to free speech is protected under law. That does not mean however I have the right to go into a 'private place' (like your house) and shout whatever I want as a matter of right. To me this forum is a 'private place' in that it is owned and run by a private commercial entity or person.

Having a right to free speech does not mean you can say anything you want anywhere you want as I understand it. I have the right to express my views in appropriate places but not anywhere. I can not demand to execrise my right to free speech for example if I am in the public gallery of a court room.
