Yes. But the law in print and in theory are two very different things

Is there a law against Sunday working on construction sites - yes. You can go to the police and complain and they may, or may not, do anything about it. Most likely the latter. I think this is what message 2 is saying!

There are plenty of laws in the TRNC that don't appear to be worth the paper they are printed on when it comes to enforcement. I've seen civil servants smoking in the Health Ministry building - smoking is banned in public places, after all. I've seen a doctor at Girne State Hospital smoking in the room that is straight in front when you go through the double doors.

Builders often construct without permission. They get a visit, get a warning and tape put on the site to stop them working - anywhere else, that would be it, but here? They buy membership of the builders' union and pay for the necessary permissions and are back working within minutes.

I am being overly negative, but, go to the police and make a complaint. As long as no-one is a relative, they might actually do something. Alternatively, they might say it has nothing to do with them and refer you to the local municipality, who might refer you to the District Officer, who will tell you it's a matter for the police.

Don't let that put you off, though, just don't expect the law to be swift and fair.

The law was changed a couple of years ago regarding working on building sites on Sundays. Prior to this the police would take action if called and usually private builders working on smaller jobs would stop if the police were even mentioned.

There is no restriction on Sunday working at the moment to my knowledge, unless anyone knows different.

girnegeeza. It was my understanding that there was a law a couple of years ago but has recently been revoked, just wanted clarification. Our neighbour is an advocate in Famagusta and has been building non stop directly adjacent to our property ( the min 3 metres away) . I have called the police previously and stopped the nuisance on a Sunday but now he is continuing again. Presume he knows something we don't?

To copulate with a goat, yes. But again it seems to be ignored, especially in the higher echelons.
