probably been asked before but: i now all about the weights for hold and hand luggage (10kg for hand luggage) I am also aware of the size restrictions 56 x 45 x 25 cm my question is : can i also take a handbag, or like i have done in the past on other airlines, can i put my handbag into my hand luggage and then once thru passport control, take the handbag out, thus having one handbag and one small holdall (hand luggage).....

Hermes run Larnaca airport, not the airlines, and they are only concerned with security and what you may be carrying.I have never had my hand luggage weighed, or had any problem taking my handbag as an extra item. I always pack my main handbag in my hold luggage and just use a small one for the flight. Hope this helps

I think it all depends who is on duty at the gate. I have had different experinces. 1. Yes, handbag must go into the hand luggage and total weight not over 10K, 2. No one took any notice. But they do weigh handbaggage when you check in. Do not take the risk, they will charge you if you have excess baggage. £8.00 per kilo

Everyone goes into the duty free shops in the airports and buys a drink for the flight and perhaps a bag of crisps, a newspaper maybe the latest best seller, a bottle of perfume. These all tuck nicely into a plastic bag (which you now have to pay for) and just as you are about to board the flight Monarch make an announcement that you will only be allowed the one bag. Everyone then goes into panic mode and tries unsuccessfully to get their purchases into an already full cabin bag. Its just a bad joke, they sell you the stuff in the airport but they do not want you to take it on the flight?????? Stop the world I want to get off!

Restrictions now say that ladies can take a handbag of reasonable proportions as well as the 10kg allowance. As mentioned above it was only UK airports that had the strict rule and other european ones always allowed a small additional bag ie in my case a laptop. You have always been allowed a carrier bag from duty free in addition.

Flown recently with Monarch? You should have seen the panic in April when the speaker announced this at the boarding gate! I have just about had it with this airline. Shame, used to be so good. Suppose they are struggling to survive though at the moment.

That's what I always do, I just have my handbag out on th plane. As long as your only taking one bag through you can take your handbag out at the end.

On the website it says one item of hand luggage if it exceeds the weight and size it will be placed in the hold and a charge of £50 will be made. A laptop has to be screened seperately so has to be removed from hand luggage, if it does not form part of the cabin baggage then it will be taken as the one item allowed. No mention of hand bags though, I put mine down on the floor when checking in and had no problems putting it through on the conveyor belt going through screening with my hand luggage seperate. What I do object to at the airport is having to take my shoes off, I set the alarm going as I have two artificial knees they know it but always give me a good going over even though I am 73.

Hi there I flew with Monarch last year. I was advised at the check in at Manchester that my handbag should have been packed in the small holdall I was carrying. But to be honest, even though they said this to me, they did not seem bothered about it. Regards Pat

The answer is NO. You can take a handbag but it must fit inside your hand luggage bag. Only on piece of hand luggage per person. That also includes laptops .

My understanding is that one piece of handbaggage means one piece so handbag must be put inside. Plastic bags from duty free aren't a problem. This rule will be enforced only at the boarding gate if they can be bothered. harold

I flew Thomas Cooke on 8th June from Larnaca. 5.5 hours late as there was an Engine problem that needed sorting on the outbound flight from Gatwick. The crew had to fly both ways without changing, and had to fly 2 ours over their allocated flying time. In other words the pilot who landed at 3am on the 9th was the same pilot who was ready to fly at 10.30am 0n the 8th (previous day)!! BA however, always change crews before returning to the UK. No weight limit restrictions on hand luggage. You are allowed to take a handbag and lap top. Free wine and drinks also free food. Nearly always on time. BA only fly from Heathrow which I know is difficult for many to get to. But I will never Thomas Cooke it again.
