Driving South to North - Insurance?

Hi



I am going to be driving from Larnaca airport through to Esentepe in a hire car - could anyone explain the difference in the insurance needed upon crossing the border please? Or can you pre-purchase it with the car hire company, or in UK before leaving?



I have heard there are booths at the border crossings but I will be crossing at 02:00 hours and doubt they will be open - have also been recommended the Pyla crossing? is this the most direct/quickest route? Or is Metehan (Nicosia) best?

30 euros at border metehan will be open , not sure about pyla .

Remember that you will only get Third Party cover. Have a 'big prang' and you may have to pay up if the other driver does not admit full liabilty, and he will not. Best to get a hire company from the north side to pick you up at Larnaca and provide a car with full insurance cover to you on the north side. Husein: ibo_taxis@htmail.com

Hi..I checked at the Metehan crossing today for you....they told me they are open 6am till midnight



Driving to Esentepe from Laranaca i always drive via the Pyla crossing where, the guards will ALWAYS call the insurance guy out of bed for you ( he lives 2 houses away ) no matter what time



also it is MUCH quicker ie 70 mins max



price is 35 euros from one day to one month ( at either of these crossings points )

I can't believe the rip off at the border - 35 euros for 1 month's insurance?? I have an annual TRNC policy for a GC registered car and the cost of recent renewal was 60 euros which, frankly, is as much as this kind of policy is worth!
