Good luck to Nick in his new venture as General Manager at the Cyprus Queen. Has someone been appointed to replace him as Editor at the Cyprus Star? I cannot comment on the existing thread for some reason. Has it been closed?

This paper does not need an Editor. Just send all the photos and captions to the local infants school and get the children to arrange them in pretty patterns. This will not affect circulation and will reduce headcount and increase profits. Doug

Having bought the paper, think it was much different than the Cyprus Today, so both papers sort of complement each other ... When we are over we buy both and enjoy both papers.... Nice to see all the events photoed as in Cyprus Star... I personally like to see people enjoying themselves at functions ... ie car boots, markets, fetes, fund raising ...

It used to be a Medview AdRag. Not so much now, as Medview have very little to crow about.

I understand that a young lady who was Nick's protege is now to do his job after being in situ for a few months. I wish her every success. My question was qute genuine and I only learned this about an hour ago.

Thats good then, as my neighbours some times saves the paper with events they took part in. I have even brought it home to GB to show my grandchildren, as they like to see the faces they know at the events ... Keep up the photos Cyprus Star please....

Hi Dizzycows We all like to see our picture/name in the paper so I quite understand why the editorial content of the Star is popular. My point is, you don't need an Editor when the only editorial content are photos of various functions. Doug

Shame that there isn't a good local paper in english that we can buy, with local news, not full of expat stuff. I buy Kibris paper most days and work the stories out with my course notes and my TC neighbours help. I want to know about the stories that are relevant here, not who has drunk 50 yards of efes in an expat bar.

Where do people get these stats from ? Is there some website somewhere that shows what % of viewers of cyprus44 think, want and feel about a whole range of topics, that I am not aware of ? Given how many posts speak with such confidence about what 'everyone' thinks, or what matters to 70% of cyprus44 users and the like I guess there must be ?

There needs to be two papers to encourage competition for news and events - I hope the Star does well in the future under the new editor. It does need to have a letters page, I couldnt see one in last week's edition - Good Luck!

Message 12 You just cannot put an end to your inaccurate views and put downs can you. Please provide a credible link to your claim that 70% of 44 members are interested in who has drunk 50 yards of efes in an expat bar. I would have thought as someone with intelligence you would have learned by now to express your views without getting personal.

So what most folk think it seems is that only drunk people look at the Star newspaper to see their photo's.. Well I think its nice to see everyone out and about enjoying all the events over here..A lot of people work very hard putting these things on for us all to enjoy,so why not look for a good photo. It reminds me of a local newspaper back home on Carnival day..It was great to see all the photo's in colour when they started doing that..And my Mother bless her always kept the cuttings of everyone she knew..We had a good look back down memory lane after she died. She had all the wedding photo's of everyone who are all now divorced Spider,X

There is a free of charge alternative - North Cyprus Free Press where the news is daily, in English and usually about local issues., although it really does need more contributers. Send in your articles, if they are not libellous, they will be published. If you are able to get hold of a copy of the Sunday People this you might well read something interesting.
