I have finally decided to bite the bullet and buy a car rather than donate large quantities of cash to rental companies. I haven't got loads of spare money and thus want to buy a cheap old banger which means that I will probably have to buy privately. I have been looking around and know basically what I want and how much to pay. However, what I am unsure of is the process of buying and registering the car. I am sure that a dealer would help with this but as I will probably buy privately, is anyone able to tell me what the process is and what documents will be needed. Many thanks

Muhtar's letter - ? cost from seller

Car docs

Photocopies of passport photo page, DL

Bill of sale proof

Seller and buyer need to go to Lefkosa, there you will need 7.5 TL government stamps.

Queues - long.

Thanks for the replies, am aware ref mot and insurance and also thought that there would be a fee payable for registration. What does the Muhtar's letter need to say? and is there a cost (think they charge even though they shouldn't) and should it be from my local Muhtar or the sellers? is the office in Lefkosa open only weekdays and what hours is it open? how long would it normally take to get this all sorted? I know, questions, questions....!
