Tough question steptoenoel and personaly I do not think there is a 'right' answer. We certainly fed strays when we used to visit on holiday before we came here to live permanently but always with some trepidation that we might have caused more harm than good in the long run. In the end you do what you hope is best and hope for the best.

Feed them...... its one less meal they have to worry about. When you leave they will find another way to feed themselves (even if it means rooting through the rubbish bags).

My friend who is a swallow (comes and goes 3 months at a time), feeds a family of cats, everytime she is here. I don't know where they go to when she goes away, but they always turn up within a day of her returning.....looking no different to before.

One tip I learnt from a man here, always carry some dog food in the car, then if you see some poor half-starved animal, you can give him a meal.

Now I await the backlash from the non animal lovers !!!

It is a difficult one but I am the same I cannot bear to see it so I feed them - we had a stray dog on our site and took turns as owners came out to feed her, but she had to go as some owners didnt like it , agood home was found for her in the end AS you say a few less meals to worry about for them
