Never found any slimy snakes...... scaly ones but never any slime. Which ones in particular were you referring to?

I saw the snake thread and it was very interesting, I also saw the spider thread which prompted me to start this thread, i was wondering if there were any other poisonous or scary/ugly creatures on Cyprus that we should beware of.Are there any poisonous plants etc.

roomy, the caster oil plant is poisonous, there are many of these plants in NC, a lot are grown in the gardens because of their red colour!!! but they are very poisonous .....

Definitely the Fig tree....if you need one cutting down...call the Belediyesi or the Forestry Department.

For crying out loud, and these are commonly grown, I remember when I was very young my youngest brother almost died after eating Laburnam seeds because another kid told them they were pea pods.The council chopped down all the trees.

The husk of the castor oil plant seed is the source of ricin.... a nerve agent. It was just this that was found in the flat of a suspected terrorist cell in north London a few years ago. It was also the nerve agent used in the gas attack on the Tokyo metro. Thankfully it's somewhat complicated to extract.
