I must let you know of a restaurant I have discovered in Famagusta, some of you may well be aware of it, it is called the Rusty Pelican, it is spotlessly clean and the food is very very reasonable with large helpings, our table of four had five beers and one soft drink, I had a mixed chinese dish with noodles and rice, my wife had mixed Turkish style kebab with salad, rice and chips and our friends both had their home made lasagne total bill 73tl and it was some feed. it is across the road from Deniz plaza next to Electrokur. We have absolutely no connection with this place but it is really a great place to try if in the area, has anyone else eaten there ?? I would be pleased to hear other people's comments

One of our favourites, especially the mixed fahita's severed on sizzling skillet, fantastic!only 15YTL. If your in famagusta again try Genko in Old City even better, bit dearer but al la carte and excellent value. Regards P

Hi all, and ukturk, I dont think it's about BEST food, everyone has differing opinions on this subject but I was amazed about the variety and choices in the 'Pelican' there are many good restaurants who specialise in certain foods eg. 'Turkish', the Pelican offers Turkish Cypriot, Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, Yankee style burgers, european style steaks etc, etc, what a choice for us and nearly all at prices around 10 - 18 ytl. and it was soooo clean, everyone who worked in the servery areas was wearing the proper head protection and throwaway latex gloves, something which is a rare sight. I will most certainly try Genko in the old city Pilgrim, is it easy to find ?? we might go there on Monday as we are going to look at a car we have our eye on

Hi Guys Yep you were right pilgrim, we went to Genko, very nice place great food and service, but not where I would go regular, more upmarket than Pelican, still think Pelican is great and went back there and tried your Fajita's, once again you were right - superb !!

Those recommendations were well worth reading but don't fancy travelling to Famagusta for a meal. What about somewhere more local to Alsancak, within walking distance. I would just hate to be sitting having a nice meal and a few drinks, and the thought of my carbon footprint ruining my night.

If you want to sample local food in Famagusta I can recommend two places. 1. In the old town, the walled city, I name is PANERI oar something like that. From the main square where the big church converted into mosque is walk west and bear left. Pass the Cooperative Central Bank and keep walking westward. It is on your left, a small but very cute place. 2. Can't remember the name but just after the Friday vegetable market. ismet
