Fig tree removal

Can any one suggest how to get rid of 2 x fig tree both growing next to patio friend are coming out to their villa and they have concerns.

big job there hell to kill i chopped mine down. drilled them and fill them tuz rhu and there stil growing so once a week i go round spraying any new shoots with weed killer and just hoping !

Most tree stumps can be killed by cutting a deep cross or making a hole in the top of the stump and filling this with a mix of 1 part caustic soda/2 parts water. You will need to keep it topped up for a month or two and also need to guard against people or pets touching it. If the stump is throwing shoots then leave these so you can estimate progress. This worked fine on several species of tree in the UK but we didn't have this level of heat - in Cyprus you probably need to shade it to reduce evaporation.

An alternative 'killer' that my farmer friend used to swear by was a 50/50 mixture of Jeyes Fluid/creosote (applied the same way) and I shouldn't think this would pose the same risk to people/pets or evaporate so quickly - but i can't verify its efficacy.

However, I have not tried any method with a fig.

There is also a Bayer product called simply "Tree Stump Killer" which you can certainly source in the UK - maybe even in Cyprus (North/South?).

Be very very VERY careful.....the sap fom a fig tree, will burn you and leave you in immense pain!!

The only trouble with using a type of 'weed killer' or drilling holes into the trunk, is that first you must chop it down to a reasonable size....thus doing, unless you are completely dressed in protective clothes, you WILL get horrific burns and possible long lasting skin discolourations....please sir, do yourself a favour and get the experts in...i promise you, you will regret doing it yourself!
