well the other day i saw these 2 women one in her fifties dressed like rambo and the other one a bit younger dressed like Shirley Temple, holding holding hands and gazing lovingly in each others eyes it was obvious they were in love as there lips were nearly touching, as i was eating my hotddog at the time it made me feel quite ill subsequently the hotdog ended up in the bin!!

msg 4,

If that's all they were doing, then I doubt it's against the law.

Even if you didn't like it, it doesn't make it illegal.

If you want to know what makes me queasy, it's silly old ex-pat women with a young Turk on their arm. Now, there really should be a law against that!

What makes me queasy is supposedly (but not really) educated people referring to a woman as it (probably all she could spell).

Still rather them than me.

In general - I believe in live and let live - there are FAAAAAAAAAAAAAR more appalling sights that are aesthetically or otherwise; offensive, than two women in love, holding hands. That anyone should judge another by their size, gender, sexual orientation, age et cetera, rather than their heart mind and soul, is more morally bankrupt than genuine affection in my opinion. As westerners we often find it weird in countries where two men walk around holding hands, and greet kissing each other on the cheek, when homosexuality for most of them, would never be on their radar....

Yenibob - as I read this thread, I thought exactly the same - though as a female I can assure you, women are usually more critical, verbally vicious, nefarious and spiteful towards each other, than men are to women - though I am not sure why. When a person refers to another of their gender as an "it" it is a way of disassociating themselves from being considered comparable - subconscious fear maybe?

Most people just want to live their lives and should be allowed to do so, they are harming no one.

If you are offended that is tough luck thats your problem not theirs. That are so many things happening in this world that we should be upset by, but this isn't one of them.

Be aware that the couple you are talking about could be members of this board, you wouldn't want them to think what a narrow minded bunch of individuals inhabit Cyprus44 would you?

That is if they haven't already guessed!!

People are free to do as long as they don't upset the majority of the others keeping their normal gender. Also they should not go out of their way to attention seek in public, as if to say "look at us - we are special". Well they are not special, and should keep their "out of normal" physical activities to their bedroom, rather than make the observers sick! I have no objections as long as they do their thing in private.

TRNC does not have the same gay rights as UK has, and sexual relationship between same sex people, if caught, can result in legal action. But we have no police branch dealing with such issues so I guess it is as safe as it can get. TCs are less bothered when the parties are foreign nationals, because they respect the fact that such actions are normal in their own society.

For the person who started this treat, it seems she has a problem and this is not so important so better adjust her moral codex.

For homosexuality in KKTC as well as Turkey, this belongs to a group of no talk topics. This means its generally accepted as long as nobody makes an issue out of it.

Talking about rights of gays, there is no rights aside of normal rights for a Turkish or KKTC person. Besides that if you read the holy choran you well see in accordance with Muslim religion homosexuality is forbitten and in countries like Iran heavily punished still.

So the Turkish and KKTC attitude is not that bad i think.

In case someone is interested to look deeper into this topic I can recommend you to go to Istanbul and spend a Saturday night in Istiklal Caddesi in Taksim. Maybe its for you Mambosun, at least this is men dressed as woman, who knows, it may make a difference?

My wife and I lived 15 years in Istanbul, and we never heard about anyone who said they were gay - no

In any muslim country,

public display of affection is frowned on; doesn't matter about who it is.

Public display of affection between homosexuals is an offence IIRC.
