The unit is past its warranty, and the shops don't carry spares - they want you to buy a new unit!

This is why I don't recommend buying your a/c from a white goods shop. My a/c wholesaler carries spares going back 7 years.

Not as cheap as Arcelik/Beko but at least we can repair them during warranty and beyond.

Have you called the Arcelik service dept 0392 444 7777 (don't press the number for English when told by the machine).

If not visit their repair/spares centre, it's on the industrial estate somewhere behind the football stadium in Nicosia (left at the big roundabout then left somewhere along there).

msg 4,

So what would have happened if the unit had failed whilst it was under warranty, with no spares available?

msg 6,

Chasing them is hardly what I'd call "after sales service". Why hasn't the shop that sold the units chased the Arcelik service dept.?

vrret - I've had a look in that industrial estate near the football stadium and can't find an Arcelik unit - perhaps it has moved. I'll try calling that number you kindly provided.

calamity, post how you get on, we have called them out to our dishwasher in the past, service was quick and excellent, they have an engineer who speaks excellent English (not as good a Vaughan's mind you) who they normally send to us with limited Turkish.

Why wouldn't a firm have spares for the appliances it sells?

Every year, buyers go to China and visit half a dozen factories for a quote for thousands of a/c units. The factory that wins gets to produce their units with the buyers logo on it. The factories that didn't win the contract drop their price for the following year and a different company produces the next years units. It follows that these different units will have different components in them and holding spares for all of them will be a problem.

If you produce your own a/c units and slowly modify them as time goes by, holding spares is not a problem.

Would you buy a car you couldn't get spares for?

Phoned the Arcelik helpline last Friday afternoon, they came today (Thursday), quickly sorted the problem (not as serious as we thought) , and didn't charge a penny (or kurus)!

The engineers phoned their 'lady' at the office who spoke excellent English, and she confirmed that we were happy and that the aircon was working before the engineers left.

Excellent service, I must admit, considering the unit is 9 years old and well out of warranty!

Nice to read a happy ending. Shame they don't all end that way.
