but...but...



anyone who organises such a survey must assume that what is on the table

is in fact a sort of token discussion between "greek" cypriots and "turkish" cypriots

who are talking about possible federal solutions...or not as the case may be



the reality is rather different



according to an old old un study quoted in the current "famagusta" gazette there

were already 100,000 turkish-born immigrants in the north, to match the same

number of immigrants in the south I'd imagine but here they may well already

be the majority by far



now there are two ways of looking at all this:



perhaps the latter "shouldn't" be here and there "must" be a move to federalize

cyprus, inside an increasingly crisis-torn eu



or maybe the populations in the north and its guarantor ain't goin' nowhere fast

and things will remain exactly as they are... forever



but one thing is for sure:



fantasizing about an increasingly unlikely series of events cannot continue as it is
