I am currently talking to Cyprus Life hospital about a discounted cardiac (heart) check for everyone who wants it. A bit ironic really as just found out on Thursday that our youngest son had a mild MI (heart attack) 2 weeks ago in Spain and didn't let us know. He is 35 years old so don't think that age rules you out, also my father in law had

the same yesterday. A friends husband died a couple of weeks ago from a massive MI, too young.

The only reason I am posting this is to let you know that in the next few weeks that you or your family can avoid being in this situation, Hopefully Cyprus Life (Medikent) will come up with a good package that you can all take advantage of. Will keep you posted!

Well Roomy,

I take it you are behind me 100% if I can work with Cyprus Life Hospital, get a good discount and hopefully save a few lifes along the way.

It is too young to die when it can be avoided!

Chris

p.s. Should have all the details Friday at the next meeting with them. Ironic thing is i didn't know about my son's MI at the initial meeting.

Dizzy it was a shock as I only found out after the event and he had asked big brother not to tell me. I was ready to fly out to Spain but he says it would make him worse!!! (It is probably stress related)

Funny how things happen as i had already thought of doing a 'heart' cardiac week about now as the women's and men's health weeks saved lives!

So think on folks as i will hopefully be posting a good health deal by the end of next week and guess what, i may be selfish but I am first in the queue for the cardiac check.

Hi Chris, hope your son & Dad in law make a full recovery! Very scary, I know, but treated as a wake up call can end up with a good result. I'm up for the checks too but not back from UK till Aug 9th - hope they're still available then.

Keep up the good work!.....(you're not 'awful' at all are you!!!)

The checks will be available for anyone who is in NC at the time, I hope to persuade the hospital to run it for a month. But will negotiate for longer if people coming out on holiday. (fingers crossed)

Marion,

The purpose of the exercise is to avoid funeral expenses. I have been to too many this year so much so, they are giving me my own parking space now.

Will use my best negotiating skills to keep the price down.

Hi Chris - what you are doing over there is fantastic, and like others I wish your son a speedy recovery.

I had two heart attacks in October 2001, and thankfully am OK. In my case it was hereditary, all of my family have died early because of this.

As a nurse you know the success rate today is much better because of the advance in medicine, and understanding.

I followed my doctors advise on how to recover, and do not allow any restrictions in my life because of what happened.

Luckily I had a very good advise from a fitness instructor, and spending time in the gym just three times a week transformed my life.

Keep up the good work....

My paternal grandfather died young of a heart attack, my dad died of his fourth heart attack at 56, and when I was trying for a baby and had a complete medical beforehand, to my astonishment, I have a left bundle branch blockage - maybe cardiac problems are in our family..........

Wishing your dad and son the best outcome, and clearly a warning that everyone should have their heart checked, however healthy their lifestyle.....

I am always saying to my offspring - your health, is your wealth!!!!!!!

Blackbird,

Really glad to hear you made a full recovery, but it would have been better if there had been NHS initiatives to prevent your heart attacks in the first place. NHS is the envy of the world BUT they don't do enough health promotion, if they did perhaps you would not have had your MI's.

I am very fortunate now i have found a good hospital with good DR's (it only took me 6 years!) who are as interested as i am in preventing ill health.

Thank you Dizzycows. I certainly believe in recycling and I wuld be happy to b fodder for the fishes, and that means that my husband could afford a holiday with the money he saved.

My mum had a heart attack and so I try to be a good girl and live a good life style, (boring to some), but it is always good to know what further steps I need to take to get into the guiness Book of Records for longevity. I am aiming at 126, so need all the help I can get. (and No! I do not have only 5 years to go!)

Maria message 19,

Can you please e-mail with regard to the statement 'a friends husband is back home going through treatment and you could not refer them to both Cancer trusts her? I wonder why?

I haven't a clue as to this statement but would love to be enlightened.

Chris

p.s Voltaron (diclofenic sodium) should be carefully administered IM as Mr Spider could damage the sciatic nerve if he has no medical training!

I now have a fair few referrals on a regular basis from a couple clinic's and I am very pleased that I can now step down a little from 1 group I hold. The idea being that they learn to become supporting of each other and not needing the facilitator too much..

Like the ticking of a clock everything changes.

Remember its nice to be important but its important to be NICE I wish your Son all the very best.

Great thing you are doing Chris.

I went for one of the MOT type packages you sorted out earlier in the year, great value and it puts ones mind at rest too or lets you know of any problems, staff very friendly and professional also.

Well done.

Martin.

Chris - are you going to try to see if they will do the MOT's?

They were a great idea but the hospital had the buy out just when I was over and would have done one. (male in my case)

msg 22, cant quite get to grips why you think nurseawful can wave a magic wand for every one? surely any help regarding heart or health should be commended! and not to pick on some one just because perhaps a couple needed specialist treatment and they were perhaps better off going back to GB for this any way....

Perhaps it was something you could have found out yourself re the internet for them too... as think a lot of us with a problem look on here and search every avenue to us available.... just a thought as it would seem you are being a bit harsh....

Re message 18 - yes Chris I agree with what you say about the NHS...although I have only praise for the way I was treated both at Wrexham Hospital, and Broad Green in Liverpool. The work you are doing is fantastic....

The "NHS is envy of the world"

It is, until you need something done, then it becomes anything but enviable......waiting lists are ludicrous, hospital cleanliness is dire,..Anyone who has worked within the NHS in the last 2/3 years has seen the whole system in "Overload"........In my opinion it is not viable nor sustainable.....And with the amount of NI you have to pay it is not Free . Dentists knocked it on the head years ago.......

Re: The "NHS is envy of the world"

Please, please don't make me laugh.

NHS is a laughing stock of the world.

Go to Austria, Switzerland or Germany, there the world 'envy' would be justifiable.

In fact any European country, including the new ones, now has a better health system than this pathetic excuse called the NHS.
