Hi

We will shortly be moving to Northern Cyprus from mainland Turkey, we have negotiated a long term rent and willl be bringing our own personal possessions plus a few small household goods. Do we have to have a temporary residence permit to import these goods. Also what items are an absolute NO NO to bring with us as far as customs are concerned. We know it can be tricky because we had similar problems coming into Turkey, but we did buy a property here so I think the procedures could be different.

Thanks

Is there no-one out there who can help Msg.1 It's no good me saying what we needed 6 years ago, because I'm sure it will be different now and in any case this person is coming in from Turkey and not the UK.

i) Ins and outs from the police station in Girne

ii) 3 copies of what you are bringing in to the country, in english and turkish

iii) Muktars form saying he is happy to let you bring in your stuff

iv) your passport and 3 photocopies of it

Metal detectors i believe are a no, no.

Guns need a licence. Customs will take them until you obtain it.

Don't bring anything brand new, i think it all has to be used goods for personal use.

Hope that helps.

If you can speak fluent Turkish i can give you a number of someone who can help. He works at the customs office. His English is not the best.

Mrs Snakes is right

a generator over 3Kw needs an import Licence, TV's have a set duty new or old it was 60 YTL

But saying that some friends of mine moved from the UK into rented accommodation and got charged nothing at all

As fpr all the documentation the Msg 7 has it all covered speaking Turkish does help

I think it all depends on the customs officials keep they supplied with effes or whisky and you may be ok

Good look anyway and welcome
