Couldn't believe the latest to squeeze more money out of unsuspecting tourists at Larnaca Airport. Went to buy 1 coffee, 1 tea (in horrible cardboard cups), got my 5.50 euros out to pay the cashier and asked where the milk was. Out from beneath she bought a basket of little milk cartons, so I took 4. That'll be 6.50 euros I was told, the milk is 25 cents each. I told her to keep it. What a rip off, have never been charged extra for milk in tea and coffee before!

1 is not enough for me either. Particularly in coffee. I will avoid that counter when I am there in September.

Airports have you, you cant go any where else, all the bars & Cafeswill be the same price, so not much chance, the most expensive coffee i bought was Chinnei airport £8 and a beer was £10 Maybe next time ask for a Capachino or Latte, they come with milk

Not too many years ago Heathrow tried to reinvent itself (Terminal 3) by making a journey an adventure, luring passengers into the air-side Terminal earlier than really necessary providing many choices of bars & restaurants, not cheap but not over-expensive nor even close to been called a 'rip-off'. However, in recent years this has not been the case, following the Turkish model, even the Larnaca one, prices have soared! Richard

It has been a rip off at Larnaca for years. As long ago as when the currency there was Cyprus pounds I made the mistake of entering the upstairs cafeteria and ordering 2 small cakes and 2 small cups of Nescafe coffee. The cakes were stale, the coffee served from a dispenser marked Nescafe clearly was not Nescafe and tasted vile. The bill equated to £11 sterling ! They understood English when I made the order but pretended not to understand the profanities of my complaint

5.50 euros (£5) for 2 drinks seems fairly cheap if you ask me. I dare say that their overheads (rent etc) are ten times what a normal cafe would pay. Go into South Nicosia and you will pay 4 - 5 euros for a coffee or go into the majority of cafes this side and you will pay 5 or 6 TL. I am sure that the cost of your ticket compared to flying from Ercan more than made up the difference ;-)

Unless it's impossible for you not to be able to get to your destination by flying out of Ercan, don't fly from Larnaca. If you add up all of the extras, fares too and from Larnaca, insurance andalso the extra time too and from North to South, it always seems a bit crackers to me. Swan up to Ercan, check in has never been a problem as far as we are concerned then up to buy coffee etc. Obviously its more than in Girne but not a stupid price and you can have as many containers of milk as you want (or a small milk jug sometimes). Why put up with that lot down South??

i would love to fly into Ercan but when you get a fare of £50.00 return to Larnaca with Thompson and then transfers to catalkoy for £25.00 with A1 cars , need I say anymore? also thee Burger King at Larnaca Airport is very reasonable.

Blimey A1 taxi is cheap isn't he? Everyone I've spoken to on the subject pays £50 each way (at least in this neck of the woods they seem to) haven't done it personally. I hear about these £50 return flights but rarely actually met anyone who has done it, on a couple of occcasions someone admitted it was a one off and they've never been able to do it again. I'm not doubting your word, you just seem to be extremly fortunate.

Re: Msg1, Have you checked the prices for coffee in the UK? At any shopping mall a cup of vile tasting liquid they call coffee costs £ 3.50 and higher. Not to mention Heathrow. So why the surprise?

I accept I have to pay more for a drink at the airport, but it's in a cardboard cup and I don't expect to pay extra for milk. A similar coffee in McDonalds in Ledra Street is 1 euro and you can have as much milk as you want.
