"Twelve people have been killed and about 30 injured in a blast at a munitions dump in southern Cyprus.

Early reports said a fire broke out near the Evangelos Florakis naval base at Zygi at 0600 (0300 GMT).

The cause of the explosion is not yet known, but it is being treated as an accident, says the BBC's Tabitha Morgan in Nicosia"

Can't see the earlier thread, so just commenting that I knew Zygi only for a great fish restaurant. But haven't been there for over 20 years. But as Alan says 'the south has been left in the dark' - which i am sure could have a double meaning in the current situation.

fortunate that not more people were killed.
