We are erecting 2 flagpoles in our garden and will flying the flags of TRNC and Turkey. Does anyone know whether there is a correct order i.e. viewed from the road should the flag of Turkey be on the right or left hand flagpole. Hope the question makes sense.

Yes emineden1 it makes total sense, when I fly them I just follow the same position as the ones in the mountains, and if my memory serves me right is it Turk. on left and Cyp. on right. If not it will be the other way, (Not much help really am I ). Best Wishes xx

@ msg 1, emineden1: Following the international accepted code: Turkish flag at left. And, very important: the flag pole with the Turkish flag should be slightly SHORTER than the one with the Cypriot Turkish flag.

Hi, Retained from military (navy) service, the flag displayed on the LEFT as viewed by the majority of viewers is considered the pre-eminent flag being displayed!! So putting the Turkish flag on the left it gives it a greater importance than the TRNC flag. Just for info, I am not making a judgement. DD PS Flags displayed horizontally or diagonally are legally BUNTING and the rules do not apply.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, if you erect flags at the bottom of your garden and as you look out at them the Turk flag is on the left as some have told us here it is supposed to be, what happens when you have visitors or people walking past from the other side of your garden - from their side of the fence, the Turk flag is now on the right!! Since we're talking flags, does anyone know why the flags are flown on the top of the mosques? This is the only country where I've ever seen this practice. I'd really like to know as not knowing any different, when I see them it always makes me feel that it is disrespectful having the flags sitting higher than the crescent on top of a house of The Lord.

I think I remember reading a few years ago that there's a law here that says if you fly ANY national flags on your property then the TRNC and Turkey ones have to be there too. I'm ok with that, just so long as they don't make me fly an EU one!

Just a note for your information, Putting a flag pole in your garden which is not an formal goverment building is illegal, you can only hang a flag from your window or balcony, having a flag pole with the flags of both TC & TRNC would state that your garden is a goverment building
