Flying back to Cyprus next week from Cologne,Germany

I suppose with the problems the south have at the moment it's not a good place to fly to? The only other flight I could find was Pegasus, but I have to hang around in Istanbul for hours in the middle of the night.( Starting in Cologne 1.05am arriving Ercan 10 am)

I can start from Düsseldorf. Can anybody come up with anything better?

We did Ercan - (Istanbul Transit) - Cologne last December. The idiot in Istanbul Transit was so lazy, he pretended to call the Police to do their bit, but it took so long, we missed our flight. Pegasus did put us up in an airport hotel, but rather than wait for the next Pegasus flight to Cologne, we took their morning flight to Düsseldorf.



So basically, you have already discovered the best route. Unless you go Frankfurt - Larnaca?



If you see a guy called Erkan in Istanbul Transit, ask him if he remebers an English guy that wanted to "rip his head off". He wouldn't come out of his office until the Police arrived. Then he claimed from behind glass partitions that it was not his fault! I wrote to Pegasus and I am still waiting for a reply. I would rather give the money to Cyprus Airways.



Incidentally, Düsseldorf was a much better flight time. It's only 35 minutes by train and costs about €3.



Bring me back a bottle or two of Reissdorf kölsch.

▶ Better, easy and probably the cheapest way: book (on line) with http://www.corendon.com (or: .nl). Departure from Schiphol Airport. Good connection to Asd Schiphol from Köln by train (right into the airport) or by (hired) car.

Breaking news : If I'm well informed Corendon now also flies from Köln (or Frankfurt). For their low fare you even get a Northern Cyprus 3-star hotel including breakfast..! Our friends use this airline (Turkish owned, Dutch based) but they forget the hotel - and still fly cheap...

Let me know if you need more info although the Corendon site is in English (and afaik German also). Have a safe flight and welcome back!

I looked into all the possibilities and have now booked with Turkish airlines. It's not cheap, but last minute in the summer holidays just isn't.

I really could not face hanging around in Istanbul half the night by myself.

Corendon sounded so good, but they only fly once a week and when booking it insisted that I book a return trip, which was not so cheap(€240} and also I would have had to go on Monday, too early or the next 8th August. Larnaka had an Ryanair flight for Friday (from Düsseldorf Weeze, must admit I had never heard of this airport, it is about 1 1/2 hours by train to Cologne with good connections), but after all the checking, I missed the last ticket!

there were cheap flights with everybody, but not if you were fixed on a date

Anyway thanks all for helping!!!! My mother is not well and I think I will have do do this all again.....mmhhh...

Try Ryanair from Düsseldorf Weeze they fly at 7:00 Am Mondays and Fridays to Larnaca the service is great. Larnaca has as far as I know no probs at present. We flew out in June for 62€ return. I know every one takes the mickey out of Ryanair, but I can't fault them at that price and a daytime flight as well.

Thanks Robin Hood, yes I also looked at this. they just didn't have a flight left for the day I wanted. I'm checking them out when I have more choice of dates.
