Is it me or when some people move to Cyprus they think they are back in the days of the Raj and feel it right to behave in such a way they would not dream of in the UK or where ever they come from. Treating people as if they are their servants and incidentally a lower level in the caste system. ******news flash****** It's 2011 you are not in the days of the Raj or in the upper limits of the caste system. This is just an observation that I have made. It appears that as soon as somebody starts a legitamit business and makes something for themselves rather than gossip, slander and generally lose any selfrespect that they may have for for themselves, they feel the need to start dragging other people down the their own level. I think it is possible that these people may have been bullied at school or just jealous of other people's success in life. Just because you don't have something doesn't mean other people shouldn't have it either.

Totally agree with comments in message 1. İ have been appaled and at times angered by finger-clicking at waiters, loud-mouthed oafish behavıour, downright rudeness and trying to īlord itī over all and sundry. İ have lived here for more than 10 years, and during that time 2 things that have happened spring to mind. English Brits are the worst offenders and increased in numbers when they sold their homes in UK at inflated prices before the crash and arrived here in droves with bulging wallets and purses. Which brings me to the second point - their loutish behavıour and money-throwing ways encouraged the lower-life forms over here to take advantage. Obviously, many English Brits managed to get houses and are still here some with Kocans and are still clicking their fingers and being truly objectionable. Many other Brits of course deplore the behaviour of these unfortunates, respect the island and the people here.

padisha what a good post for a new member, you have it in a nutshell, I have also been here almost 10 years and visited since 1983 and been amember of this board for over 3 years now, the behaviour of many expats is deplorable and some of those same expats who own businesses think they are automatically entitled to have our custom, I think they they are in need of a reality check however I am not branding everyone the same before the usual mob start baying for blood

billybob - not only do some of these people think they are entitled to our custom because they speak English (of a sort), İ have also had the misfortune to have had experience of some incompetents, their inflated prices nad threatening efforts to force me to pay for sub-standard work. İ have also had very good work done by genuine ex-pat tradesman at sensible prices.

The reason you will get little response here is that a large section of the membership are,to put it bluntly, bigotted, inbred tosspots, with a limited mentality, whose sole purpose in life is to criticise and try to belittle anyone who posts a genuine thread. They all know who they are;perhaps it is now the only way they can achieve anything resembling an orgasm!!( I now await the usual banal respose from a certain " pislik ", regarding my grammar).

İ can only speak as İ find. Over 10 years-ish here İ have been met with lots of kindness and some crooks. İ left UK in the mid-80s and had already experienced similar types over there. There are plenty of individuals wherever you are that will take advantage if you let your guard down. What İ find such a disappointment is the level of dishonesty that exists. İs it something learned from the English ex-pats, or did they learn it from the low-lifes over here? Gary Robb stands out as a person who straddles both camps.
