TRNC WILL (WHAT AND HOW TO DO IT) - update per July 15, 2011

O - 1 : Download [ http://www.allcrusades.com/CD/index.html ] and complete the template will (the “simple” or more extended one).

O - 1a : Anybody making a will over the age of seventy get a doctors report for sound mind from a government hospital.

O - 2 : Ask two witnesses who will have to sign your will - away from the Registry Office or when you register. See the will itself for more info.

O - 2a : Make sure the wittnesses are not beneficiaries or the spouse of a testator.

O - 3 : ===> It is better if you make an appointment with the registrar because she is a very busy lady. You can only go monday, wednesday and friday (the office closes at noon).

O - 4 : Buy the right number of stamps from the post office (left from the Court House in Kyrenia): cost of stamps is 35.50 TL and 6 TL to register.

O - 5 : Take the will and the stamps to the Court Buildings - after you go in the unmarked door next to the Tax (Tapu) Office, at the right side of the stairs, its the first door on the left.

O - 5a : Knock and if she is prepared to see you she will unlock it from a button on her desk, she may be busy and ask you to come back in 5 minutes if she has other customers. There is a bench outside the unmarked door.

O - 5b : Give the lady the will, your stamps and your passport. She will stick the 35.50 TL ones on the will and you will have to sign across them.

O - 5c : She will then seal the will in an envelope using sealing wax, you will have to sign it and you are given a slip for its retrieval. Don't loose this and make a note of its number, in the event of your demise its the only way your beneficiaries can trace the will, otherwise it is an expensive search.

UPDATE. The file you can download now holds 1 : an extended free, blank Will (for partners with children), 2 : a simple free, blank Will (for partners with or without partners - extra codicil can be added) and 3 : a howto.doc file.
