A young lady who lives in a small village nearby won a million about a year ago. She featured in an article in a local newspaper and has now had to relocate due to vandalism of her new car and home. Perhaps it would have been better to have been a bit more discreet ?

one hundred and sixty something million pounds is thousands of pounds interest per day, I cant see how anyone can keep this private, even with off shore banking, the idea of buying a lottery ticket surely is buying a chance to change your life........I am sure someone would notice.........

They must be mad going public. They've obviously not thought it through.

Definitely wouldn't go public and think you could keep it quiet but I would have to move then travel the world and if a place took my fancy perhaps buy a bolt hole there to go back to. But for that sort of money you could probably buy Cyprus!!

Well if they are from Falkirk they won't worry about the begging letters, I'm sure they will still keep sending them.

Hello,Mr and Mrs Falkirk Scotland.

You may be surprised to hear from me but i am telling you this.

I am Jojo Gabanga ,President of the Bank of England in Mexico City ,United State of Canada.

Please can you send back the £160,999,999,99 your Uncle Archie borrowed in 1954,when we dug our gold mine to help charity and poor people around the earth,as you know he died when his kilt caught fire in an accident at the porridge factory in Zadongo alas omitting to tell anyone he had borrowed this small amount from me.

Please call my office in Nigeria right away for instructions.

I never went public with my lottery winnings and it has never hurt me! Never bothered with an offshore bank either.

I personally know two lottery winners from N.I. A bus driver called Peter Laverty won 10.5 mil on a rollover about 15 years ago, he did take the publicity and still lives here. He has invested in property and business here and is obviously well known but never lost 'the common touch' however wealthy he is now. Great guy who does a lot for charity.

The other guy won 3.75mil and would not go public with it. How people became suspicious was when he bought several top of the range cars and parked them outside his terrace house !!

She said she will be changing her car, if they have been living off benefits because they can't work it is probably a mobility one.

Personally,I think one million is enough to change the average persons life for the better without it being an overwhelming amount-£161mill is just too much for the average person to handle, better to give 161 people £1million.

Some people are really sad posters, and it goes to show the quality of mods on this board when No.1 can post such inexcusable trash, I notice it wasn't moderated :(

Shrimp, they live in a beautiful detached villa in a very sought after area of Scotland, they were not short of a shilling or two (and certainly not now) I hope they enjoy their celebrations - in blissful ignorance of the neandrethal postings by people like ivebinad, No1 Doyen & woodspeckie on 44

Its been announced that the Weirs have had to leave their property with their children as the begging letters were arriving and has become too much for them. It has been suggested they have gone abroad but obviously Camelot will not say and also no further comments in public will be made by these people....very sad but, its part of the course if you go public I would assume.

I have not seen them, but my son in the UK saw them and he said I don't think the money will last long probably be spent in the first 12 months on food.

Message Ditto. i would imagine it will ruin them, most people who win large sums of money are not cut out to handle it, (a bit like footballers and popstars)

They say money doesn't bring happiness, but I think I could live with the misery.

Message 35, I think it depends on what type of people you are as to whether you can handle that type of money and your lifestyle beforehand. Certainly agree with you I also could live with the misery, very easily.
