Simena are fortunate to have a huge party from the UK staying there, what do they do, charge 6Tl for a bottle of Efes, now when we all tell them (and we will) that they can toddle across the road get their Efes for 4 TL, what do you tink they will do.

Simena have to rely on students to fill beds during the winter. Why rip off genuine tourists?

I hear the Tourism minister is to speak to these visitors, I do hope they tell him about this.

I unfortunately do not choose the venue. I had not realised sorry to duplicat, it just came as such a surprise, I though Simena had more business acumen, I remember the winter before last when they were undercutting

others.

With you on this one. They have a party of 120 Scousers staying with them shortly so, no doubt, got on the band wagon, though I think they've done a beer deal price with the group! However, not good PR!

Met the group yesterday, many of them Kulaksiz 5 supporters because families of one of the victims involved in organising the group to come here. Some of them have joined the Stop the Blackmail in North Cyprus facebook Group. Should get interesting, first wave staying 3 weeks to be followed the by the rest of the group who are staying 2 weeks.

Mess 9 Yorgozlu - How SAD that you feel like that. I for one and many others didn't buy a property because it was cheap that was the asking price!! MANY foreigners here contribute a lot of time and effort to help others Sivil Savunma,Cancer Charity,SOS children,Cheshire Homes etc. FREELY. We came to a place that isn't recognised by any others in the world other than Turkey, because we wanted to support the under-dog risking our savings etc. But many of us thought hey ho we will get a warm welcome won't we?

I really take offense at your comments but unfortunately it is very widespread here. I doubt that the YABANCİ will ever be accepted here. SAD and TRAGİC - meanwhile we continue to give freely - ah yes that's us Brits so tightfisted again.

just what i was thinking , my mum has just built a home for her self in cyprus after living in england for many many years (she was born in cyprus) the land that she built on was given (i say given but they had to pay a good few thousand as well and give up land points gained by the thousand acres they lost over on the south sside after the troubles) so does that silly man class that as some one elses land , i am sure if my mum and her family could live in thier original village with all the land that is theirs and live safely they would prefer that . some people should just think what the state of north cyprus would be without the income gained from expats etc .Honestly . i think it is terrible the way some TC's try to rip off expats and even people like my mum . some cheating (i don't swear , but fill in the gaps,) conned her out of 28.000 pounds sterling and the police did nothing ,

fatelady;

The " thousand acres" lost!!

Nothing is lost, all is your mums and can be claimed back + compansation for loss of useage.

As for "TC's try to rip off expats",I'm ashamed to be one but at the same time find it rather insultive towards expat community.

cyprus is such a beautiful island and since we built the villa we have been here for four years , and i love it , learning all about my heritage , but i do find the attitude towards us and people like us a bit wrong somtimes, we went out oneday and on a market stall we were going to buy fruit mum speaks turkish she was born in cyprus she asked how much was told the price and started choosing her strawberries another person came along spoke tukish to the stall keeper (without the british twang that mum had picked up after living in england fo 55 years ) and bingo their strawberries were 3tl cheaper mum just left them there and told the stall keeper to keep them , that is just one small instance , just like the start of this thread over charging

The problem is that the idea that we bought cheaply here is widespread now. Call it delusions of grandeur or just plain greed. That the prices reflected the market and the lack of just about everything is forgotten.

The real joke is now the prices are even lower. Watch out if you buy now, you know in the future they weill try to screw you for more.

We want easy money is the creed and the perception is that the ex pats have a bottomless purse.

How foolish and how short sighted.

We can get Efes at 4 tl at a lot bars and that is where we will go when we want a quiet drink. Unforutnately

we had a K5 meeting (not my choice of venue) at Simena. Had we known the price before we had drunk some of the beer, it would have been water. Still now we know.

6TL is quite cheap for an effes.

Get into town, not your locals and pay 10 and 15TL for the same drink.

Over heads here are expensive.

The biggest being the electric to keep the beers cold for us.

Had a coffee last night in a restaurant,6TL,a 500ml bottle of carlsberg was 5TL,that was imported, why was the coffee more expensive,it was not an issue,i enjoyed it very much.

dearie, isn't it a hoot that we are accused of buying a villa built on someone else's land and yes he does mean Greek Cypriot. The really hypocritical part of that statement is that it was sold to us by a Turkish Cypriot.

Poor build quality?

You don't always get the deeds so you never own it anyway?

Cheap is only cheap if you are getting a bargain. So many factors to consider, if they were worth more they would be sold for more. Supply and demand, market forces, facilities, amenities have to be factored into the price. Of course bad build, no build, no infrastructure, no utilities, no permission, subsequent mortgages are all things that happen after you are a captive purchaser, the things your Contract promised you would be there and are not, except fpor the mortgage, that was promised it would not be there but is. Even a resale carries risks for foreigners, until you get PTP, and can register title, your Vendor's creditors can come in behind your registered Contract and put a memorandum on the property.

Back on track !

Ada Beach Hotel charges 8tl but this is mostly inhabited by Turks.

When you remember that a bottle of Effes in the supermarket is about 2.30tl per bottle, then the maximum cafe/restuarant price should be perhaps somewhere about 5tl a bottle . A 100% mark up even then !

msg 26.

A British friend of mine has just bought a house in the UK for eighty thousand pounds. It is an old wood mill with three bedrooms on a nice size plot with a stream. It will need a little attention but nothing like the extra money they con out of expats here. Yes of course it has water and electric connection.

This of course is in a backwater in Wales, as Cyprus is a backwater of the Med. I would say that houses here are well over priced, rather than cheap.

Why did the price of Efes go up in Semina only one week before the Scousers came on holiday.?

The prices were NOT increased by any other bar near Club Semena, so it was NOT a price rise from the suppliers.

This is TRUE EXPLOITATION of holidaymakers and those of us living here will remember it well when the Lovely Scousers have returned back to Blighty.

SEMENA you should be disgusted with your exploitation of a loyal group who have returned once again. For a few Lira more profit you have descended to the depths of conning your lovely patrons, you don't deserve to have any winter trade.
