News has just come to me that the lovely Roger Staines who has been fighting ill health for several months now, has slipped away from his pain and discomfort asd his life came to an end about an hour or so ago.

I am sure that his wife Enid will be posting on here when the funeral will be so that friends can come and say 'farewell' to this lovely, lovely man.

Just wanted you all to know, for I know that many who read this board have been so loving and supporting of both Roger and enid over the last few months - Nurse Awful in particular - . More info to come in due course but for now, 'farewell' to a lovely friend.

Thanks 'Rocker and Simbas'. It does make us realise how short our lives are, and how important it is to try to use the gift of life to full advantage. What is really sad about Roger is that he would have been 80 on the 24th July, but did not hang on quite long enough. He had hoped to play Squash on that day, but it was not to be. also as my bierthday is the 25th, I might have tried to play it with him. So I think that saying 'Plan as if you will live for ever, but live each day as if it is your last' is a pretty good philosophy.

Both Mum and I would like to send our heartfelt thanks to all the loyal friends who kept in contact and kept his spirits up while he was still with us. He was a genuinely good man.

and thanks to you |Jetski and your Mum for allowing us all to be part of his last days.

Some of you have said some lovely things here and on the other thread by \nurse Awful. I hope you won't mind their being read out at the funeral. Or come and be prepared to share your thoughts around the grave as the family say 'farewell' in a tribute to Roger's life.

or any more comments on here which could be shared. they would be most welcome, I am sure.

We knew Roger & Enid for several years, through a Meeting at a Social event while we were on Holiday.

We became good friends and trust that we shall remain so with Enid in the years to come.

Roger was a thoroughly nice man, with a wicked sense of humour and a love of all things mechanical.

A quiet man he nonetheless was heard, and noticed, in whatever he said.

We shall miss him greatly and can only take satisfaction from the fact that he no longer is in distress nor, what he dreaded most, to be a burden.

I hope that all who can attend his Memorial will remember him with the same affection.

Cheers !

Such a wonderful man. For 7 years a great neighbour, friend ( like a second father to both myself and my ). Much love from us to Enid at this terribly sad time. But may we all remember the good times. We will be thinking of you tomorrow.
